MLS Head gasket from toyota is like 150 bones... cheap. I get my pre cups from roodogs on ebay. 130 bucks shipped to my door for 4 stainless ones. All in all hardly out of anyones price range. However, most people dont do it until its too late, then they complain IDI engines are ****e, when they just need a little regular love like any other vehicle.

I'm probably going to be doing this soon, so I'm in the market for pre cups. That's a great price, but any idea on shipping to the US? Are you in Australia? Just curious, as the next cheapest I've seen online is 4 Wheel Auto at $99 a piece. Even with shipping from Oz, it sure beats 4 Wheel Auto's price.

Just replaced mine got head gaskets and cups from www.cruiserparrts.net good price and great service that have ALOT of 3B parts too

If you don't mind me asking, what was the price? I looked on their website and didn't see any pre cups listed. Lots of other diesel stuff, but no precups. As I said, I'm going to be doing this in the next couple of weeks, so I just want to get these parts ordered soon. But, I'd like to get the best price. ;)

Head Gasket

As you suggested, just an illusion. The gasket is still in place in the pictures of the block but only cylinder #1 shows and the gasket was burned out at that precup.

By the way I emphasize others recommendations to use OEM Toyota head gaskets. I used an aftermarket rebuild set and tossed the HG replacing it with OE part.

I don't want to divert the original thread here so let's end discussion on the old thread that I linked. Only meant it as reference for the question as to how the stainless precups hold up.

The HG on the pooched engine looked like material had been cut out exactly around the precup, or is that an illusion? I have had old heads with all the precups cracked and wiggling around and some you could remove by hand. It takes alot to actually crack them into pieces. Failures such as yours are why have chosen to change them at around 150ks. A bore scope would be nice to cus you could just poke it in the glow/ injector hole and directly look at the cup and inspect it for cracks.

This where I bought my precup and engine rebuilt kit there few year ago.

11115-58110 is the HG, which my usual sources say might not be available. 11115-58080 might work also, which was the number for 3B's after 1988. If your dealer can't find it it doesn't necessarily mean you can't get it, it just means you need a more uber dealer. Some of our vendors on this site have an uncanny ability to get "discontinued" parts from Mr. Toyota.

Just got off the phone with my local Toyota dealer. They couldn't find a 58110 HG in the US. They were able to find a 58080, so I ordered that one - $108. I'll post up if it works or not on my 82 3B.

Have bought 2 set so far as well as a rebuild kit that was top quality. Don't use aftermarket HGs. Use the MLS one from Toyota. Here is a link for the precups TOYOTA 3B DIESEL PRE-COMB CHAMBERS SET OF 4 | eBay

Thanks! Ordered today. $147 shipped to the US.

Done hijacking the thread now.

The advise used to be that if there wasn't an issue with the 3B head don't pull it off since it would probably develop cracks. Is this not the popular opinion anymore? and that it is more important to check the pre-cups than crack head issues?
