okay, I a think i may be biting the bullet and giving the 60 a fresh coat of paint. I just know if I don't do it now while I have it stripped I'll regret it bad end up making twice the work for myself later. Plus, poor paint = poor seal = poor rust prevention. It's not 100% official, i still need to price some things out, but i'm far enough along to start thinking about a color....

I'd like to keep it a toyota color. these are the options...

Silver
PROS: the cruiser's original color, easier prep job since door jams and firewall are already silver
CONS: harder to spray (metallic), bland

Freeborn Red
PROS: The color of the FJ60 my mom drove during my childhood, looks good on a 60, timeless
CONS: more prone to fade, bright

Beige
PROS: classic color, looks good dirty, not as flamboyant
CONS: no sentimental value, bland

Other? open to suggestions...as long as it's not rainbow like marshall's big gay 2F :flipoff2:

Red...

though I picked it for a reason that may turn you off on it a bit :D

I think you need to keep the brown on your current cruiser just carry it over man. I always liked the look of it.

I would go with the metallic green...that's the color of mine and Alex's 62....looks blue but it's green. I've liked it and get a lot of comments on how it looks.

Go with silver on top and sides, follow with red on bottoms, following the "lines" of the truck, y'all know what I'm talking about. Here let me pull a photoshop.......

Although, I am with Alex, for my cruisers if I had the money to choose, nothing but white or tan on all Land Cruisers with no chrome. There was once a poem about that from the Birfield Bar?

I would go stock silver so you don't have mismatched door jams.

i'd paint the door jams if I changed the color, plus I'd probably pull all the glass regardless.

the bronze has grown on me but the i'm leaning toward a solid because its easier to spray. only reason i'm considering silver is that it's already that color.

tough call...

Then if you are going to paint the door jams go GREEN! I love green almost as much as Marshall loves the rainbow! :grinpimp:

well, fj40z inspired me to check out my local Maaco, so I went by there yesterday to talk to them and look at some of their work. The paint jobs looked decent but more importantly, pretty consistant. here's what they quoted me...

- silver (no need to repaint door jams etc) 2 stage (5 year warranty): $1200
- new color (complete repaint) urethane single stage (4 year warranty): $1300

+ $250 for a "cut and buff"

other benfits
- in and out in 5 days
- less than a mile from the house

Considering I have no painting tools/equipment, I don't think I can paint it for less than that, plus it would take me A LOT longer, so I am seriously considering having them do it.

oh yeah, and Fairway Ford quoted me $3000...

I am leaning toward a solid (non-metallic) single stage urethane paint for future "touchups". still haven't decided on a color though....

Thats exactly why I went the maaco route, by the time you buy or borrow all the stuff then buy the paint, and unless you know someone who can get you a deal on it the paint itself is pretty steep. I dropped my 40 off on tuesday evening and it was done by lunch on friday. See if you can find a couple of people that had their cars painted there and check theres out really close. Another thing that might help is to tell them you are doing a build thread on the internet(mud) and tell them how you are going to post pictures so all youre cruiser buds can see how it turned out because many of them are contemplating having their cruisers painted as well;). Then ask if you can stop by every day or so to get progress pics, trust me, I really feel like if they know you will be stopping by everyday to take pics of how everything is going so you can post it up for youre friends that have similar vehicles to see that they may do a little extra in the care and painting of youre rig. Thats not to say you wont find some little things that need looked at touched up, but if you call them out on it they will more than likely take care of it. Good luck which ever route you go, and I cant wait to see it.
