Hello All
First time posting here but long time off-roading enthusiast. My daughter is about to become a senior in HS and was in need of a vehicle which will also become her college car. The family has been off-roading for years with multiple week long trips to both Moab and San Juan range in Southern CO. Therefore it was no surprise that she was wanting a capable and DEPENDABLE truck. Her first choice was a 4R but we struggled to find something in good condition in our price range. I then suggested a Lexus GX 470. Her response, "Lexus?" with her nose curled up. She did some research and was "onboard". After several weeks of searching, we stumbled across at 2008 GX470 with 161K on the clock. Drivers.Lexus.com showed a great service history so we pulled the trigger and made the purchase.

The day we brought her home

Of course the two first mods were to remove the running boards and replace the crappy Chinese tires

Tires are Goodyear WRANGLER ULTRATERRAIN in 265/70/17. Not a huge fan of Goodyear but for the price thought I would give them a try.

After a good under carriage power wash, the rear air bag sensor stopped working....ugh nothing like ridding on bump stops. I sprayed both sensors with WD-40 and like magic they start working again. This experience was enough to convince me a lift was needed sooner rather than later.

The suspension is from Dobinson:
Front Springs:C59-302
Font Shocks: GS59-221
Rear Springs: C59-325
Rear Shocks: GS59-705

The rear has settle a little bit since taking the above picture and is much more closer to level but there is still some rake. After installing the lift, the driveshaft "clunk" went away. I don't know if this is good or bad!?! Did anyone else have the driveshaft "clunk" go away after a mild lift?

I think the next mods will be lighting, just don't know yet.

Awesome find! Funnily enough the guy I bought my gx from built it for his daughter (he drove a new Tacoma on 35s and his wife a t4r on 35s) but she claimed it was too big for her (2.5 in on 35s)

While its a great rig for a luxury 4x4 trail rig (or shopping mall?) build for the wife or girlfriend, it sure will be a gas guzzler for a college student.
I guess most parents put out an allowance for their kids for expenses and money may not be an issue. Dependability should be there.
Personally... I like any GX470 build. Looks good!

Thanks for the response. Safety is more important to me than gas mileage. E=mc2 does not lie :) Any 5k lbs vehicle is not going to get very good gas mileage.
