I noticed when the temperature outside is in the 20s or below i hear a whining noise on acceleration the first few blocks until the vehicle warms up. Sounds like it is coming frome tcase, front diff, or trans. Is this sound normal?

My 98 does the same thing. Pretty sure it's the t-case. I put synthetic fluid in mine last fall, and it still does it. From reading on here, it's completely normal.

Thanks everyone! One less thing to worry about lol...

I have been hearing the same noise on my 2000. Its been brutally cold here the past 3 weeks and thought possibly I had a wheel bearing going on me, but after a few blocks I wouldn't hear it any more.

Glad to hear its nothing to worry about! Thanks again guys!

I'm just down the road in Denver. I changed diffs and TC this fall fully expecting the whine to go away and these past weeks of cold weather brought it back. it does go away quicker with the fully synthetic lube...

Agree, and also reduces normal operating vibration. I do like synthetic.

Thanks for posting the question. I just heard the drive line whine yesterday, for about two blocks. It was about 35-40F. Glad to hear it's normal.
