Got a CEL VSC/TRACK on my 2000 LC. Checked code and got a cylinder #1 misfire. I wanted to swap coilpacks to make sure. When I got to the first cylinder I found this:

Apparently, previous owner had a wire tied in here for remote start and that is where wire failed. The remaining wire is too short to splice so I picked up a terminal repair item from Toyota.

Problem is, I can't figure out how to release the wire from the connector to put the new one in.

I've poked and prodded but can't find any info on this. Anyone know?

Use a small screwdriver to pop the white cap off the inside of the connector. you will be able to access the pin lock inside the connector.

Why not just splice, solder and heatshrink tube a small wire between the two points?

The small piece of wire that was left in the terminal was really mostly plastic with almost no metal wire. Nothing really to splice to.

I had tried to pry that cap off initially but it felt like it would break. After trying everything else I could think of, I eventually tried prying that cap out again with a tiny awl. It had a lot of crud on it.

I needed that awl again to depress the pin to release the wire. I have a lot of tiny screwdrivers but nothing small enough to get in the connector. The new terminal assembly snapped right in - popped the cleaned-up white cap - spliced and soldered.

Ran perfectly, just need to clear the code.

Thanks
