I said jumps!!, not out-of-control downhill slam into the dirt type driving. Geeez.

...out of control slam in the dirt happens at the end of the jump.:eek::hillbilly::hillbilly:
Don't worry, there's plenty of faceplants in Moab, you'll be repolishing that turd:meh::hillbilly:

hey, i wanted to know if the people who are leaving for Moab on the 25th of April have any routes planned or what trails are going to be drivin on the way there. Also has anyone thought about reserving the hotels before hand or is the plan to wing it? Looks like everything is coming together for me, have someone coming to buy my Dakota on Friday so I will have the lift and tires and also my wife got approval for all the day off so I can run with the crew, there and back. Im stoked!!

I have been slammed busy.:o But need to get the poop together, the meet tomorrow would be a good time to get it done?

What lift/tires are you going with?

The "on the way" runs are long days, no/few bailout opportunities, so I foresee lots of "dad are we there yet", "shut up sit down" and "don't make me stop this truck" in your future!:D Not trying to scare you off, just sayin.

Will attempt to get some "on the way up" hotel info posted tonight.

P.S., any good jumps in Moab???

Yep, tons of them, most I would put in the "you will only do that once" category!:hillbilly:

I got something for you to polish Rob!!!:flipoff2: Depending on how much money I have left after the above, Im hoping to pull off getting the Slee shortbus.:)

Some lodging info, mostly cut and paste from previous years. There is also plenty of camping, cabin, etc opportunities in the area if that’s your thing.

These are the places/dates, trails for each day to be added soon.

Mexican Hat for Saturday night, 4/25. Have stayed at the Hat Rock Inn, it works, but still haven’t figured out the shower, so need another run at it!:hillbilly: Looks to be plenty of rooms available.

Monument Valley Utah Arizona Lodging at The Hat Rock Inn

In Blanding for Sunday night of 4/26. Last year we stayed at the Four Corners Inn priced right, worked well and they have available rooms.

Four Corners Inn Tel: 435-678-3257 - 800-574-3150 Web Site: The Four Corners Lodging – Four Corners Inn
I called and they said the rate, if you mention that your with Copper State Cruisers is; Single $45 Two staying $55 plus tax ...
Wireless/Continental Breakfast/refrigerator microwave

In Monticello for Monday night the 4/27. Last year we stayed at the Navajo Trail, worked, I called they have plenty of rooms.

Navajo Trail National 9 Motel Tel: 888-449-6463 or (435-)587-2251 Web Site: index
Single $39 Two staying $46 plus tax ... Wireless/No Continental Breakfast/refrigerator microwave

As of now, Tuesday night 4/28 and the rest of the week is in Moab. Wednesday morning is registration/tech, then a trail run.

These are tiny towns, Monticello population is ~2000, Mexican Hat ~100, so don’t expect a huge selection of entertainment or resort type accommodations!:hillbilly::cool:

Probably a good thing for the first trip, get some idea of what your going to subject them to.

Your twin is nothing like you right,,, ...:lol:

I wouldn't be too quick to order it, see if anything else crops up to consume $$$ in the process?

Your absolutely right about the bumper Kevin. That will be the last thing I do. First I have to get the lift, tires, and re-gear squared away. Im sure there will be extra cash spent going thru that process with fluids and any needed seals or whatnot.

Trail discussion; post your thoughts, preferences;

Saturday; drive to/meet up in Mexican Hat. If we get checked in early enough, the possibilities include Valley of the Gods, Moki Dugway, San Juan River, etc.

Sunday is open, still looking. Attempting to get in contact with the owners of the Hat Rock Inn, they wheel and have this in their web site “We also have some great jeep & 4-wheeler trails, all trails are accessible from anywhere in town!” So may have some suggestions for cool new places to see.

Monday, Hotel Rock? That was a great run and there is a route that comes out in Monticello.

Tuesday, Lockhart.

Wednesday, tech registration, then something off of 128? This looks good, Pole Canyon Rim, Dolores River?

Thursday – Saturday are Cruise Moab Runs. Some of us only signed up for Thursday, so will be exploring on our own or tagging onto runs.

I talked to Kurt @ Cruiser Outfitters about running Lathrop Canyon on Saturday. It’s another long day, ~65 miles, Shafer Switchbacks, Thelma & Louise Point, Musselman Arch and coming out Long Canyon. If you’re a member of Kurt’s forum, the pix are incredible, if not join up, good Utah info over there.

We're mulling over not running Lockhart on Tuesday, but instead going from Blanding to Hanksville via Natural Bridges, cross the river on UT95, then into Canyonlands/Hans Flat from the south, then out west and stay O/N in Hanksville. Drive into Moab Wednesday morning via Green River. No firm plans at the moment, though.

How about making Sunday a ruin exploring day? There are some way cool remote ones in the area north of Mexican Hat, on roads where we have driven right past them. Most sites request not posting about them by name, location, to protect them, but have collected some directions, waypoints to several good ones.

seeing the ruins would be very cool Kevin. Ive lived in Colorado and Arizona my whole life and have yet to see any.

So regarding the bailing from Lockhart, this is what's been bugging me ever since last fall when I drove home from Moab on the west side of the Green River:

According to maps from Canyonlands NP and another book, one can drive from Hite Marina (where UT95 crosses the river) into the Maze district of the NP. There's some discrepancies on distance, but the book sez it's 29 miles to the Waterhole Flat intersection, another 7 miles to the intersection with the Flint Trail, then up the incline (Waterhole flat to the top of the climb rates 4wd necessary) and 12 or so miles to the Hans Flat Ranger station, and another 46 miles to blacktop at about 20 miles north of Hanksville on UT24.

Of course, all recommendations are to stay O/N and not do anything in one day :frown:. That would mean camping, permits, portable toilets, expedition equipment  and the like.

I can't afford that expedition chit.:hillbilly::hillbilly::hillbilly:

Let us know what you find out Michael. I love doing Lockhart, but something new is always worth considering. :steer:
