CM06 camp/vehicle Preperation Suggestions?...

Howdy Everyone-

Planning on heading out to Cruise Moab this May, but being a Moab newbie I thought I would ask...

What should I do to prep the cruiser and to have my bases covered at Moab? I would be interested in any advice you have for a multi-day off road adventure.

I have a 76 fj40, 4" lift, 35 MTRs... pretty much stock otherwise. Here is what I have planned so far:

Power Steering install.
Rear Locker install.
Skid plate install.
Cooling system (need to fit a fan shroud).

For those of you who have been, what has made your time more enjoyable? I plan on camping out (tent style) for the duration of the event.

WELL, not breaking my rear third would of made it more enjoyable.

are you planning on driving the 40 out to moab?
i would make sure everything is up to snuff as far as mechanicly sound.
tie rods
gear lube
tune up
make sure you have no oil leaks
take as many extra parts as you possably can.

as far as mods
the locker is the easiest to do.
p/s would be alittle more work, but well worth it..

i think we should get together and tag team some project together before moab.

what p/s set up do you plan on doing?

Just give me a time to meet, maybe a weekend and maybe we could knock out a few projects.

I am going mini-truck PS. Gathering the parts as we speak.

Locker is an easy install, I need to look my funds over and see if I can swing the ARB or not...

Do you leave your campsite set up or do you break it down each day? I was also wondering if you load up your cruiser with spares or leave them at camp?

You'll leave your camp stuff at camp, but I would throw in some spares. I wouldn't throw in the spare transfer case, but minor stuff would be good.

From my limited experience there - the sun is hot and the wind is cold. Are you running a top? For me a bikini top with some soft doors you can throw on work best. Last time I ran a soft top cause my kids were in the back and I didn't want them to get cold. Then we could roll up the sides when it got hot. Driving to Elephant Hill in the early morning is cold!

By camping, do you mean the campground. Half the fun of Moab is the after wheeling social stuff at the campground. Beer is very expensive in Utah. Pick up what you need in Grand Junction before you cross the border. The town of Moab is a nice place with lots of restaraunts, bars and a grocery store. Nice place to walk around at night.

Make sure you bring the required stuff. Fire Exteng., First Aid Kit, strap. Make sure your emergency brake works or Robbie will flunk you out (He will probably help you fix it then)

The weather is nice in May. A little cool some evenings, so bring warm clothes. The campground has showers so bring your own shampoo, soap, etc.

As Romer stated, Cruise Moab camping(at the campground) is not that bad. Since this is your first year, you will not have to deal with the cotton(lucky). Making sure you have enough is another thing to consider. I ran out one year, 2 6packs cost me 22 dollers . Never again will I run out. I almost have as much fun on the trail when i'm in the campground meeting everybody. last year was a blast when we were able to get wireless(thanks Tim!). The weather seems to be off and on every year. One year it's super nice, next it could be wet weather. Either way, you'll enjoy year time in Moab, nothing like 4wheelin in desert country! I do recomend reading "Desert Solitair" by Eddward Abby before the trip out west. Might help in giving you a better understanding of Desert Country. Look forward to seeing you at Cruise Moab 06!
