Had an interesting problem and fix over the weekend. After a -5 degree F. evening, I found a big puddle of clutch fluid on the driveway under the slave cylinder. Thought I had lost the slave cylinder which was disappointing since I replaced the master and slave cylinders 10 months ago (albeit with aftermarket Beck-Arnley products - not genuine toyota). Anyway.....

I ordered a rebuilt slave cylinder from NAPA ($28) and had to wait three days for it to arrive. The weather was sunny and nice today so I crawled under the truck to have a second look. With a buddy I bled fresh fluid through the system and tightened the clutch hose connection 3/4 of turn. I took a 10 mile ride and it seems to be holding fluid.

So, I'm thinking perhaps a piece of crud got stuck in the piston seal, and coupled with the frigid weather, allowed the fluid to leak out.

I'm gonna take delivery of the replacement slave cylinder and keep it as an extra.

Moral of the story. Check connections first!
