how much play should be in the clutch release fork when i pull teh slave off to replace. mine moves around quite a bit, should it be fairly solid or have alot of play??

Not much play...on the 83l FJ40 my bud just bought, the fork wasn't even bolted throught the bellhousing. We were able to repair it without pulling the tranny. You should adjust the rod on the slave where there's about 1 inch of pedal play befor engagement.
