Clutch pedal hard

What is the proper procedure to check and adjust the distance between the booster rod and master plunger? I imagine both pieces require removal to check. I have noticed clutch slippage going up a steep highway hill in 5th gear.

If i sit in my Truck and push in the clutch about 3 times it gets really hard. If i push it in any more than that it becomes impossible to push in.
But as soon as i start my Truck it becomes soft again and fine to use.
Weird? or is this because the truck needs to be running for the clutch booster to work?

Yep. The vacuum pump runs off the back off the alternator. So the truck needs to be running to create vacuum for the clutch and vac operated systems in the truck. If the engine is running and it's not creating vacuum you have a problem. I find that it does take a few seconds after using the clutch to build up vac pressure for the next gear change.

I'm glad summer helped u out with a new booster webby:) how is it working for you?

I was able to dial in the rod on the clutch booster so it was the correct distance from the master cylinder plunger. The clutch no longer slips and the engagement point seems a bit lower which is good. There was a bit of fluid from the master when I separated it from the booster, the master leaks a bit and I'm currently looking for a new replacement.

The booster works well but is very soft, takes a bit of getting used to. Maybe they were made for Japanese women? I may try and repair my old one and sell one of them in the future. The price was great compared to what you would pay elsewhere ...thanks for the lead!

Post up if and when you find a clutch master cylinder replacement. I have been told they are discontinued by Toyota

That may be true, the one I ordered came in with 2 flange holes on the master base instead of 3. The kits should be still available but I want a complete original if possible. I'll post when found.

I just finished changing my clutch booster tonight. It was also purchased through the source Boogie74 found.
Yep it's a bitch to get the old one out and the new one makes the pedal very soft. To soft for my liking, I will go get a heavier return spring tomorrow.
