Hey everyone,
I have a clutch problem....yesterday i drove home in my 65 fj40 with no problems...it has a 2f and a 4speed and the clutch is suposed to be new....anyways...i went to drive somewhere last night and it felt like i lost some depth to my clutch, like i had to push it in further to engage the clutch...i drove 17 miles and picked up a buddy and went to another buddies house and by the time i got there i had to put the clutch all the way to the floor to use it, but it still worked, i went to go home and clutch lost all of its pressure and didn't work....my question is it the clutch or that clutch cylinder thing? Could the clutch cylinder thing lose pressure because it was like a gradual process versus the clutch just going out ? Also i was trying to sell her or trade her but i want fix her first.

Probably the clutch cylinder thing. It is also called a clutch master cylinder. Fluid is leaking around the plunger. Replace the master cylinder and slave together and you should be good to go.

FYI, the master cylinder is the one in the engine bay that is hooked to your clutch pedal. The slave cylinder is underneath attached to the bellhousing. Get yourself an FSM and it will walk you through replacing and adjusting them.

Goodl luck!

Edit: You can confirm it is the m/c or slave by having someone push the clutch pedal while you watch the slave. If it doesn't move, then you have found your problem.
