Clunk in front suspension, need help diagnosing

I have a clunk/clicking, more when turning the steering vs going over bumps, and my mechanic thinks it's the axle making that noise.

I never followed up on this. I figured it out. I have the Slee skid plates and the front plate has a section that sticks up to bolt onto the crossmember right in the very center (so a long protrusion up that could bend and shift). That bolt was missing (shop lost it) so it was the skid shifting (basically that protrusion was under load from all the rest of the bolts but able to pop over into a new position) when turning and articulating (like turning into a driveway) or occasionally on a hard stop.

Reached out to Slee for the bolt type and thread pitch, ran to Ace Hardware and replaced it - torqued it down good. Never heard a clunk since.

Reviving an old thread. I am also getting a clunk front the front drivers sided under hard braking and acceleration. Sounded like metal on metal shifting and shifting back. I could feel it in the brake pedal, steering wheel, and the floor. When I had my steering rack replaced I asked the mechanic to check for the sound. Not ball joints, ucas, or any joint infact. It was actually the torsion bar anchor arm..

It has a weld near the adjuster bolt and that seems to have popped. Been driving with it like that for a while so it doesn't hurt it but I'm gunna clean it up then reweld it. Just crazy since I've never heard of it on this site. If you place a large screw driver or crow bar in the space by the adjuster bolt (to the middle of the vehicle) and apply pressure you can see if there is any play in the arm at the weld. Hope this helps anyone else chasing a mysterious knock.

Can you post photo or video??

Excuse the mud. You can see the crack in the picture. When the suspension loads/unloads the anchor arm pops a little. Making a noise and sending the vibes up the TB to the lower control arm where I feel it everywhere I discribed above.

WOW! What t-bars are you running?

Old Man Emu. Much rather this weld break than to crack a lower control arm.. but still blows my mind that the weld failed

Also seems my picture isn't entirely focused on the crack. Find the welded spot on the bottom left of the anchor arm and there's a hairline crack going all the way through it.

Might just buy a new anchor arm... But I really really really don't wanna reindex my TB lol

Was your noise a single or double “pop” sound in slow turns and when accelerating or braking? If so, did you weld the crack and correct it? If you welded and fixed, did you do it with torsion bar installed on the vehicle?

Also, can you draw an arrow in the photo to point to the hairline crack?
