Ok, I think I've found the best radio for our application...

https://midlandusa.com/two-way-radios/product/gxt1000vp4/

They are GFRS, (commercial) and require a licence for use in the States, OK in Canada. I'm not sure how they can enforce this, just plead ignorance if you get caught in the U S and A.

GPS radios are pretty spendy...

These seem to be the best bang for the buck and have a lot of features, come with a car charger, NOAA and SOS compatable. From what I've read, the range on FRS/GFRS radios is solid at 2 miles and terrain dependant after that. (36miles is not very likely...)

We need to figure out how many we need...

I'm in for a couple. Group buy!!!

I'm good for 2

Ok so it looks like we are in for a couple sets. So far we have:
Tyler 1 pair
Dean 1 pair
Steve 1 pair
Jason 1 pair
Hosam 1 pair

I also expect we'll have:
Paul 1 pair
Mike 1 pair
Larry ?

So I say we buy 10 pair. What ever isn't purchased by members can be covered by club funds in the short term and purchased by members later. That is a total of 20 radios. Should be lots. I'll look into where to buy from for best pricing in today and will try and order tomorrow. Unless someone posts up a ney don't do that.

So no Ney's in the past hour... perfect. Radios are ordered. 72 US per pair shipped. Should be here early next week. One I know what the full ticket price is I'll post up.

Nice sales tactic. At work that would be called the Arnott shuffle. Get when they aren't looking.

I waited almost 2 full hours for someone to disagree with me.... that is more than enough!

Ok folks. 82 per set of radios.

I accept cash or email money transfer to tylerarnott at hotmail dot com

So the Radio's arrived monday and look pretty darn good. Steve was over to work on his bumper so we tested them as he drove home. I was on the back deck and him in his truck driving. Crystal clear sound out to the end of the twp road and still pretty solid at the highway 28 intersection. Likely 4km or so away.

Unless you need them sooner my plan was to distribute at our next meeting. So bring 82 bucks to the meeting. I paid my self back from the group buy out of the T-BAR funds so the club has floated the purchase and you'll be paying it back to get the radios.
