I purcahsed an HJ60 from Canada that has a TON of anti-rust coating in every crack and crevice. The rear hatch and engine bay are the worst. Now that it is in Texas, rust isn't really an issue anymore.

What is the best way to clean out the engine bay? I'm hesitant to use a power washer in fear that I may dislodge something.

Wiping it down with a wash cloth and a heavy degreaser is the last thing I want to do, but fear it may be the only way.

Use a power washer, you should be fine, just take care on where you are shooting it and what setting you are on.

Cheers,

Michael

be careful not to get that degreaser on the piant or it may stain.

I just bring my trucks into a local car cleaning and detailing shop and tell them to clean the engine compartment - i have no idea what they do - but it comes out great and i dont have to get dirty.

I used a spray bottle of kerosene and a toothbrush. Rinse with a garden hose at very low pressure. I hope to eventually pull the thermostat housing and pulleys and polish them to a mirror finish.

:D Thats looking a bit too clean there sir:ban: :D:grinpimp::grinpimp:

There you have the princess and the ugly duckling. A clean truck is nice to look at, but there aren't many feelings better than admiring your filthy truck after a good outing!

Moose, wouldn't the film of kerosene attract dust? A water rinse won't get rid of kerosene. However, it looks good, so who am I to question!?!?!

Back to the cleaning question... have you considered steam cleaning (or steam and mild solvent/detergent)? The heat will really help soften/melt the wax, and the mild soap shouldn't hurt the finish of the painted/aluminum parts.

Moose bring it wheelin you wus. Cruisers arent made to be that pretty. lol. You must have no kids.

Maybe bring it to our monthly meeting at Papas BBQ on Thursday(15th) and we can see what you are talking about. My HJ 61 had some of what you are talking about but it came off easy enough.

pilotsareplanecrazy; Get a can of degreaser and go to a do-it-yourself carwash that has machines with a light setting. I've cleaned the 2F in my 60 that way and gotten good results. I don't know what part of town you're in, but if your're nearby, the carwash at Greenville Ave. and University Blvd. is the best one I've found.
I have to admit that the results from a toothbrush and kerosene shown above are pretty impressive.

That's funny...my wife and I don't have kids and people can ALWAYS tell. She shows up to BBQ's on her sportbike....

I like off-roading/exploring )owned several dual-purpose motorbikes)...but I'm going back to college next week for 3 years and this truck MUST stay in one piece.

It does though, I use kerosene on my mtorcycle chain as well, it's completely water soluable, washes away leaving no residue.

unfortunately not enviroment friendly.....

being on the "island" you gotta watch out for them hippies...

I agree it needs to do some offroad. not even stupid stuff, just some mud and those great hills they got on old decommisioned logging roads. Careful in the ditches.

hell I drag a 60 thru decomissioned ditches, tore the tail pipe off the last time. didn't need it anyhow.

I thought ( and is my idea ) the steam dry out the rubber parts and hoses with knowing consequenses ..

Moose... you crack me up! Did you ever work at a used car lot? Thats perfect for the highway princess... but you should remove that unsightly hood! :D
