Hi all, I have one more question. I was using one of those cheesy POS air compressors to air up my spare tire because I was out in the middle of nowhere and the plug that goes into the cigarette lighter port got so hot that now it doesn't work anymore. I can't use it to charge my phone or anything for that matter. I checked for a blown fuse but saw nothing blown there, any thoughts on how to repair it or do I need to find a replacement cigarette lighter? thx again guys.

Pull the AC control panel off, includes the cig lighter, and see what is going on in the back. Could be a bad connection, could be you melted the wiring. I would replace the fuse just in case.

Likely carbon crap built up inside the socket and eventually coated the center + contact to the point where it will no longer conduct electricity. Plug overheated because of poor contact. Poor contact = high resistance, high resistance = heat.

Try using a pencil eraser to clean up the center contact.

I'd check the amperage on the fuse against the chart printed on the inside of the panel cover. Possible that it's over-fused? Sounds like the POS compressor drew too much current and/or there was resistance in the socket.

The lighter is a terrible place to plug in high-draw accessories. The wires to the lighter are laughably thin.
