Maybe you should pick up a cheap Chinese HT.

Or maybe we can make a concerted effort not to support the Chinese. ;)

Just saying...

I'm hoping of joining you all, hoping my wife and dog will come along.

Any idea on the how extreme the trail will be? If too extreme, I might come alone and take up primer7's offer to ride shotgun (if still available).

Looking forward to playing with my new HT. APRS is cool.

I'm assuming we should bring a brown bag lunch...

Sure, no problem

Maybe you should pick up a cheap Chinese HT. An HT would be good to have for spotting and such later.

That's not a bad idea, considering you are much better educated on them, which one would you recommend? I need it to be a simple radio for a simple guy.:D

How much new snow is that area projected to receive in the next 48 hrs?

I have been toying with the idea of heading over (I need to pick up my new CA illegal heater over @ Spressos) but with prevailing conditions it might be a lot for one day with the fam with a Snow Run and going over the Sierra .

The winter storm warning for northern Sierras (Alpine, El Dorado, Lassen, Nevada, Plumas counties of CA) is set to expire at 10am. CALTRANS is currently reporting no controls on CA 70 nor CA 89, though some controls on I 80 (over Donner Pass).

The next front is suppose to come in late Saturday, early Sunday. So it seems the run will be during the break. But you never know what curve ball Mother Nature might throw us.

So we should buy stuff that is made in China and sold by companies based in Japan, at a marked up price?

The "don't buy Chinese stuff" boat sailed a long time ago.

I'm just sayin'
:meh:

You really can't go to far wrong if all you want is a simplex unit for rig to rig on the trail and spotting. The best advice I have is get the simplest one you can find, to many features suck when the the key pad is smaller than your phone. In general less features=lower price.
Look here 144 MHz - HamCity / Ham Radio Equipment - HamCity / Ham Radio Equipment

You could even put your mad E-bay skills to work.

But get one with lithium batteries...

Hey...on another note: Everybody have fun tomorrow and be safe eh?! I'm going hunting...

I wasn't trying to start something. Each to their own.

Like Dan said, have fun everybody. Cut a nice tree.

I didn't take any offense, just pointing out a reality.

Everybody have fun at the Xmas Tree massacre. I'll be looking for road reports, we plan to head up with my Sis and her family Sunday. It would be nice to know what to expect.

Have fun guys, we just aren't going to make it from Winnemucca, decided to stay the weekend, since I have to be back on Sunday afternoon...

Jack
