So my 76 has 2 choke knobs.

The stock one that says "choke" is too short to reach the choke on my 305v8. So i made it a throttle cable with a piece of short chain.

The extra one that is installed reaches, but does not say choke, I don't know if it's aftermarket or what, I've seen one that looked identical on ebay advertised as a fj40 cable..

The question is, it is possible to remove the knobs? I'd like to the word "choke" on the real choke cable, even if I have to order a new knob.

I didn't' feel a set screw when I looked.

The unknown on is to the left of the one that says "choke".

Thanks,

Choke knob is part of the cable assembly.

Unmarked knob/cable is aftermarket.

:meh:

There was, at one time, someone on this site who could make you a knob in any style to fit any cable.

:hhmm: :D

Most of the aftermarket cables I've dealt with have had nonremovable knobs. However one can always destructively remove the knob and generally the shaft underneath is usable (sometimes you have to crush the knurling though).

I assume you are knoobs.com then :)

How do you reattach the new know, just make it a hair big and glue it on with epoxy?

Any tricks for getting them off? or just go in with a set of channel locks? How hot to get them soft?

I assume I'll need measurement and pics to order knobs? If not I'd like one that says "Choke" and on that says Throttle that look close to sock as is reasonable ;)

One other thing, since you're casting all that stuff, have you considered getting a mold off the inner transfer case boot and casting them out of hi temp silicone? The OEM ones are stupid expensive and i have not see a good alternative.

Thanks,

Cal-

For removing the knob just get creative. Crush it with Vise Grips. Dremel it in half. Set it on fire. Whatever.

If there are threads under there (which there sometimes are) then I can just use a threaded insert plus a set screw to hold the knob facing upright. If its a plain, knurled, or keyed shaft then just measure the diameter and I'll give you a steel insert in the knob to slide onto the shaft with a set screw to hold it on.

If you want the stock look then all you'll have to do is place an order for this knob which should be the same style as your other choke knob:
Toyota 40-series LC Dash Knob [55] [Dash] - $30.00 : Knoobs.com, Custom Switches and Knobs

There are selectors on that page to specify your graphics (just use the "text" option and indicate you wantit to say "CHOKE") and the insert you'd like. Sounds like you're going to want a "Plain Shaft" insert, just select the proper size from the drop down.
