Our 100 series is making a chirp chirp chirp noise while driving and I cannot figure out what it is. I have walked along side/rode on the running boards and cannot figure out what area its coming from (its not in the engine bay). It is fairly loud when driving 15-35mph.

It does not seem to be affected by applying the brakes or turning.
Front wheel bearings were done last year and still seem to be fine.
My first thought was U joints so I greased them and it made no difference.
I jacked the truck up and removed all 4 wheels and let it run. I cannot replicate the noise on jack stands.

When in drive all hubs spin except the passenger rear. If you give it some gas it will spin a little but then traction control jumps in. I know about engines but have no knowledge about rear ends. Do I have a broken axle shaft? The video is with the truck in 4 low and center diff lock on. Can spin the hub forwards or backwards, is this normal? Any advise would be appreciated.

i dont think you have a broken axle shaft. does the chirping get louder / faster with speed? can you get a video of the noise happening?

Unless you have a locked rear diff your rear wheels turn, and receive power, independently. The behavior you show in the first video is normal.

The second video noise is normal also, it’s the rear brake drum shifting slightly against the five wheel lugs. When you mount the wheel it secures the drum from shifting.

I had a chirp from my rear axle when going over bumps, ended up being the parking brake assembly. I replaced the bellcranks (one was seized) and lubes up the assembly and the noise went away.

Agree nothing out of the ordinary in the videos.

Mine turned out to be my wheel bearings although I just replaced them. I didn't set them to the proper torque specs. Opened everything up, used the fish scale method with a torque wrench on the adjusting nuts, been good ever since (25k miles).

I'd pull the rear brake rotors and check out the parking brake hardware.

Same, my parking brake assembly was chirping, and later rattling on bumps.

Its hard to say, at very low speeds like under 5mph I cant hear it. Around town its audible but much faster and you cant hear it well over tires and wind noise. I will try to get a video in the next day or two, its currently on 4 jack stands right now.

The drum does shift on both sides but passenger side has play aside from that the drives side doesn't have. I'm guessing maybe just slop from wear? Its got almost 230K miles on it.

This noise does not occur with bumps, just a constant chirp, chirp. chirp while driving. I was unable to recreate it on jack stands though. I'm guessing I cant get anything to spin fast enough due to traction control kicking in. I pulled off the caliper and rotor to inspect the parking brake on the passenger side and everything seemed fine/not seized. It does almost feel like its dragging on that side though when spun with the brake off and in neutral compared to the drivers side.

I had adjusted the parking brake on both sides maybe 8 months or more ago as you had to pull up the handle quite a ways before it held (was like this when purchased). It holds fine but if you put in park, pull the parking brake then take your foot off the brakes it still rolls forward a couple inches then stops. The parking brake will hold just fine in neutral btw

I did both front wheel bearings 2 years ago using the fish scale method. I check them periodically when the tires are rotated, changing oil etc. I checked them last weekend when the video was taken and they seemed okay as well.

Was able to have the wife drive me in circles around a parking lot and what I thought was coming from the rear I'm fairly convinced is coming from the front passenger side now. I did wheel bearings 2 years ago but maybe having an issue?

I noticed as seen in the video when going down hill and turning to the left (turning and putting pressure on passenger front) the noise seems to go away. I'll have to take the wheels back off and take a better look up front.

Was curious if you ever found a solution to this chirping noise? Thanks.
