After searching this forum for a good referral, I cannot find one for the Chicago area. I live in Lake County, so any of the northern suburbs would be preferred.
Ideally there is one around that has a good reputation and lots of experience with the 80 series.
Thanks much.

I did most of work on my truck at Speedriven Inc in Palatine, IL. They did my HG and everything else that I needed, good trusty guys. Give them a call and talk with Marcin his the owner. Speedriven 847_4858126 tell them that Mark 96 Gray LC sent you.

They are Mercedes Benz/Porsche/BMW/Nissan/Toyota High Performance specialists, but they do work on LC's why because they started working on Supras back in the day and supras and LC's are not so far apart when it comes to the engine etc. Not sure what else to tell you I have given you their phone number and my opinion..... customers trust them with their $200K + vehicles so I would call them specialists yes.

If not then take it to Firestone on the corner and trust the specialist and jack of all trades there to do the job right:cheers:

By the way if anyone is looking for a custom inter cooler for SC or Turbo charged 80 they can fabricate it for you.

There are no Land Cruiser specialist shops in the Chicago area.

If there was they would be broke and out of business.

Agreed. How come you don't do side jobs anymore Gumby???

Anybody east of the Mississippi and north of the Mason-Dixon?

I've had a long history with Thom's 4x4 in the city.

That history is more due to my 72 Jimmy, but they did save me about 1200 versus what McGrath wanted to charge for laundry list of items.

I'm a BMW mechanic but I am also a LC guy. I have a 94 Lc and my wife has a 04 Lx and i do all the repairs or maint on them so I am very familiar with the trucks and enjoy working on them. I am very thorough and probably much cheaper than going to a shop. I live in the west suburbs. What kinda of work do u need done?

With this vahicle, I know that I don't know.

It seems that the suspensions are more technically complicated than the cars I'm used to, so I would want someone who is competent in that area. My truck has 167,000 and it may need shocks, springs, bushings, and other components to be updated.

I'm also going to need the head gasket done soon, and probably the requisite distributor, rotor, plugs, wires, and other under-hood maintenance.

I recently had an uncomfortable experience with "Death Wobble" and I'm not sure it has been resolved. I don't want to have to quality-check someone's work. They need to be competent right down to their socks.

The 80 series suspension is not really to complicated. I am very familiar with there suspension. I just put a TJM lift on my truck which included springs shocks, front and rear panhard bars and front Lca bushings. I have also done birfs, axle seals, phh, fuel filter, plugs and wires, brakes, stereo (alpine DVD with nav/bluetooth through sereo), pin 7 mod, wheel bearings and changed all fluids. I know 80's pretty well.

I'm moving to Chicago next month, so please post up whatever service results you have. Thanks!

You're from Seattle and you're moving to Illinois? Let me be the first to say, "Don't do it!" You own a Cruiser and you live near the mountains? I hope they're paying you triple what you had been making so you can take a month every year to go back. And so you can pay the insane taxes need to fund our crooked government.

In case you make the move, I'll keep you posted on the search for a good gease monkey.

I may drop you a line when I get to doing some of the work you listed. Thanks for the reply.

It's a temporary move this time (9 months), but I used to live in Chicago in the late 90s.

Busy. I have two 1964 45s in progress and the 55 wheeling rig constantly needs work. I got away from side work when I was getting my second masters and teaching an overload and I like it.

I am doing a 62 birf job for a local guy, but in general I'm working enough to keep me happy.

What did you finally do? I'm looking for a Chicago (west) mechanic for my '97 40th Aniv. Any recommendations?
