Looking for similar suggestions. I moved back to Chicago after living in MN for about 7 years. Picked up my 76 FJ40 in northern MN about 3 years ago. I'm an electrical/computer engineer by trade with very little mechanical aptitude. I managed to replace the clutch and put in a Weber carb but it took about 10x the time that it would take someone with real automotive skills. I moved to the West Loop into about a third the space and 3x the mortgage, so little space in the garage to do anything except scare the people whose cars I park next to. Anyway, the truck definitely needs a lot of body work inside/out. I am looking to have someone in the area handle (any place in the midwest would do)?. Also, the transmission likely needs some work. At one point, it got stuck in between two gears when I was in a parking lot...couldn't get it out of neutral until I pulled the stick shift off . That was about 2 years ago. Recently, it has been getting stuck in third although I am able to get it out after some maneuvering. Any advice on someone who could take a look and perhaps suggest other required work would be great. Going on a rock climbing trip to Black Hills in May and am hoping to get it mechanically sound before then. This is not my primary vehicle, so I could get it to a shop anywhere in a 150 mile radius.
