checking vac hoses

Not sure where to start unless there is obvious rot.
When I did mine I went to the local parts store with a hose from the 60 and bought the correct size by the foot
I just started pulling hoses, cutting the new hose and replacing to make sure their all covered.
Be careful when pulling vacuum hoses off anything plastic...it will break easily.

idk what im thinking, there is obvious rot everywhere. I should just replace them all *ssiiiggghhh*. I should get one that isnt rusted through...
 
Start at the carburetor and work away from the carb following the routing as outlined in the FSM or Haynes Manual.

If you see any lines that are deteriorating, plan on replacing them all. I think it is something like 57' to do all the lines.

Make sure your inline check valves go back in line correctly.

Be very careful with the ones on the water neck. They have the plastic fitting and snap off easy. I think used they are $30.00 each from SOR.

Alright, that doesnt sound bad. Iv been doing some discussing with a few people. The frame is in bad shape and the body is rusting through in several places. The engine and tranny seem to be in ok shape and most all parts do as well. How much money should i be willing to spend on this? Its not to far from running great but if something were to happen when should i just let it go...?

Did the battery explode or something? That is a lot of rust on things that don't normally rust.
The previous owner didnt take care of it. At all actually, im fairly certain im the first person to do any real work on it. I can see where the previous owner tried but he only made things worse. I spent the first 7 or 8 hours hunting down his mistakes and correcting them. Very frusterating. But hey, i got it for 300 bucks.
 
Look at the left side (passenger side) of your engine compartment. Either the battery exploded or you squezzed the poop out of a few sea gulls.

I would seriously consider washing that engine bay with baking soda/water in a spray bottle. You can also use Coke in squirt bottle but it gets sticky.

Do this before you start otherwise you will end up with the crap on you clothes and it will eat away at your clothes and you will see big holes in your clothes after the next wash.

I recommend that you pay the $15 to purchase a factory emissions manual. You can use this make sure the hoses as they are now are connected properly.

Replace the hoses either with silicone hoses or Toyota OEM hoses (siliconized rubber, I think). The normal Buna-N rubber hoses from an autoparts house won't fit (not metric) nor will it last very long (gets brittle very quickly). If you do a search you'll find that a lot of people get 3mm silicone tubing from McMaster-Carr. I've got some links at home that I can post up later of some vacuum routing schematics.
 
Broke out the vac tester just now. Of the 6 hoses i tested thus far, 3 have vac leaks. Looks like ill be replacing teh lines.
