Folks, I hope to head out to the Guatemalan wreckers on Tuesday with the mechanic that does most of the teachers cars here at school. I expect to find some FJ45 pickup stuff as the pickups are relatively common here as compared to back home. The deal will be that the parts I find and don't need (like tailgates and headache bars) will be traded to those who can provide me what I need and can't find for the FJ45LV (see this thread https://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=40358 , blackmail maybe but I need some parts to do it right)! That way you get what you want/need and I get what I want/need.

I don't have lots of room heading stateside this summer so I won't be bringing several samples of what I can find, just the best ones. It'll be a crap shoot 'cause I don't know what's there till I go so I might find stuff and I might not. Remember that there is little to no rust here!

Don't PM me as my box is nearly full, just post up here of what you can provide me and what you need (photos if possible)! I'm not bringing stuff to sell (remember space limits), just to get the stuff I need (unless I find everything I need at the wrecker here).

[QUOTE=cruiser_guy- speedo cable
- sway bar bushings
- front fender lights
- seat belts (did the '67 even have them?)
- air filter housing and associated piping

Above is what I can supply in exchange for a OEM 45 LWB tailgate.

See blackmail does work!

Do you have a picture/description of the differences between the LWB and SWB tailgates?

lwb is easily distinguishable by the "toyota" stamped in it...swb is same as fj40 tailgate...much like the two rear half doors, only one piece...examples below.

I see LOTS of those running around here. It shouldn't be a problem at all. Does anyone know if they are year specific? I'd be willing to bring several if I get what I need ;)!

yes there are, not sure when they changed though. difference is the bottom hinges, the early 45 long beds had 3 hinges, the latter(guessing early 70's) gates had 4 hinges, I would expect you will find mostly the 4 hinge. Also there may be some localy produced tailgates and even beds that are not the same as normal 45 beds.

I've heard rumors that the Toyota mini trucks, when they were still made in Japan, had boxes made at the destination, ie: Canada/USA. Is there truth in that and did that happen with the 45's, and if so will a tailgate from here work?
Do we want 3 hinge or 4 hinge gates or does it matter?

I would rather have the 4-hinge, but I will take either if it comes down to that.

true, the early(mid 70's I recall) Hilux beds were made in CA, the company that made them was latter bought and became part of Toyota, I forget the name of the place.

US and Canada 45LPB had genuine Toyota made beds

Many African countries had localy produced beds, some South American did also I think.

here is a localy produced African 45 bed, they just got a cab and chasis.

Another question on the desired tailgates. I saw an old Toyota Scout on the road today. The tailgate on that looked like the FJ45LWB tailgate. Are they compatible? Does anyone even know what a Toyota Scout looks like :) ?

Is "Ground Up" the only one to take me up on my offer?!?!

Its a STOUT and from info I gathered in another thread the tailgates are not the same as the FJ45 ones but I don't know what exactly is different. They have a decent following as well though so if you find parts, post them up. Somebody will likley be interested.

Looking forward to hearing about the junkyards there.

Cheers,

i got nothing to trade and damn near no money, otherwise, i'd be hounding you for a swb tailgate. i could use two of the "j" hooks that hold the top on though (they're mounted on the back wall of the top.

We'll see what I find. Naturally I must give preference to those who have what I need, or know where to get it! If you've got leads or can twist a few arms of those who have what I need :) ...

Naturally, it doesn't need to be '45 stuff, it could be Stout stuff too or other 'Cruiser models or whatever.

Visit to the wreckers is postponed, remember this is Central America and manana is the rule! I'm going to repost with a revised list of what I need and it's clear that the FJ45 tailgates are the hottest item to look for.
