Why would Toyota not think those would sell here in the States? Dammit, I'd be on the sales lot today with cash in hand. Friggin Nanny state and all our safety rules.

70 Series

What he (Bearcat80) said. Awesome!! :steer:

Definately looks better than ANY compact/midsized SUV on the market here in the US.

Todays SUV's are too soccer mom friendly and lack any character or soul.

Hi All:

I'd guess somewhere in the Middle East.

Alan

What country are the pics from? Great rig and I second the wish of a us side 70...

Hi All:

Oh, I don't disagree with you. I wish we had the option to buy one here in North America. But do you have any idea how much one would cost?

Depending (of course) on the Yen/Dollar exchange rate a 70 Series like this would cost between US$30 to 40,000. For a SWB with rear leaf springs and a V-6 engine.

That is more than the cost for a Heep Rubicon with rear coil springs. Think about it for awhile. Toyota has not gotten as far as they have in the US-market by offering vehicles not suited for the US consumer.

In the early 1980s all of the 4wd mini-trucks on the US market had IFS except for Toyotas. Toyota finally bowed to the demands of the (street/highway-bound) US marketplace in 1986 by replacing the solid front axle on leaf springs with IFS. Go 25 years into the future and a 1985 4wd mini-truck with EFI and the extra-cab is worth much more than a similar '86 - go figure!

Regards,

Alan
