On the afternoon of Fathers Day, I headed out to grab some steaks at the local Safeway. On the way home, I noticed a clean FJ40 sitting in a lot with a for sale sign. Long story short, within about two hours, the 40 is sitting in my garage and I'm trying to figure out the best way to break the news to the boss.
The rig is from California and the boby is absolutly rust free with no bondo. There is a 350 conversion done that is mated to the original 3 speed. Looks like most of the work was done in the 80's by the look of the engine and the limited amount of info I got from the owner. The engine still has California smog control stuff on it.
Here is a list of items I plan to install in the near future:
1. original wheels/hub caps with 32" or 33" tire.
2. lift...not sure the size or brand yet.
3. power steering conversion. The thing is like steering a snow plow.
4. front and rear seats. Currently has janky aftermarket front seat.
5. exterior paint. Currently just grey primer.
6. bed liner coating the inside floors...not sure the brand yet.
7. SM465 4-speed.
I don't plan to hard core wheel this rig (that is what my built 97 is for). This is more for mild off-roading and taking the kids to get ice cream.
I caught the TLC bug about 8 years ago when I bought a 1985 FJ60. Since then, I've had a 88, 94, and my current 97.
Anyway, I thought I'd share my new toy!
