Tonight I noticed my 94 idleing rough approx.400-500 RPM. I took it out a few hours later and it was the same, rattling mirror, shaking etc. Shortly after the check engine light came on and then turned off about 5min. later. I have had my cruiser for 3 years now and its always run like a top. Last time I had idleing like this was when the airboot was cracked or forgetting to replce the oil cap. Now its fine 600-700 rpms and fairly smooth.
I always thought the light would stay on until the problem was fixed and it was reset via OBD computer. I was thinking to go out and do the paperclip trick to detect the problem, will the last symptom come up? Since there no light theres no way to count the code?
Whats the deal??

Chris,

You may have a stored code; try it. I believe that misfires will self-correct but will leave a stored code. Maybe only on OBD-II but you can check.
