Could someone help with p0306, and p0141. Auto zone told me a 306 is a misfire in #6 and the 141 is a bad O2 sensor. Should I just go with that info and buy parts, or is there a better route to take first. If the O2 sensor is bad, could I put a universal one in? There's a $60 difference between OEM and universal. Does it really matter? Thanks in advance.

This is for a 96 LC

Your misfire could be causing you to set a code for the O2 sensor. Fix that first, clear the codes and see if it gets set again.

Yes it matters. You'll find the price difference for the OEM O2 sensors is well worth it. The price difference may be less than you think; a call to C-Dan will clear things up. Aftermarket (aka Universal) O2 sensors have been problematic. They have different wiring and you'll need to fabricate a wiring harness. Some have had problems with the mounts. If you are a plug-n-play guy then you won't be happy with Universal.

I'll agree with Yomama that you should clear the misfire in #6 first. You may have an injector problem, or a spark problem (plug or plug wire.) I would start by measuring the resistance in your plug wires. If the rig is due for a tune you could throw a bunch of new tune-up parts on there and see what happens. If you are going after this systematically then:

* Plug wire
* Spark Plug
* Wiring to injector #6

FYI, P0141 is O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 2)

Thanks for the replies. I hope it's as simple as a plug or wire. Iv'e only had it for just over a year and haven't done a tune yet, so hopefully that' will be the solution. It feels a little sluggish off the line and every so often it shudders a little. I'll find out this weekend what's up with it. Thanks again.

Spike,
For your benefit you can't compare OEM w/ aftermarket; especially electrical or mechanical components. It's like comparing apples to oranges. I've own Toys since I started driving and from my experience you get what you pay for. I know must/all of us here can agree.

I just replaced an o2 sensor in the Tacoma...Autozone's version was made by bosch and was ~$160. ended up buying OEM from a local dealer for ~$90...CDan is prolly cheaper.
