Lots of talk lately about coolant temps and how bad the OEM temp gauge is. I didn't want to spend much $, but wanted a real coolant temp display.

Found this and love it - 500 miles on it so far. It does way more than coolant temp:

Amazon product ASIN B07P37WY1R
Pros:
-easy set up and configure the screen - almost plug in and go
-totally customizable - you choose what and were things are displayed on the screen - easy to change
-reads and clears DTC / engine codes
-Has GPS for speed (no map or anything)
-adjustable speed calibration for the MPH. with 35" tires, this is awesome! Mine is set at 118% for 315/75/16 tires. I set the speed to match my Garmin GPS.
-the screen looks very high quality, Sharp, clear and easy to read. Not too bright for night driving. Looks like a smart phone screen, but no glare.
-Easy double stick tape install
-small!
-low cost
-one button to change setting etc...
-many other features I dont need or use (yet)

Cons:
-Needed to relocate OBDII connector to under the dash on the 1997 80 series - used existing screw, see pic below
-Beeps when firing up each start sequence and after key is turned off
-Only works when engine is running (I think). With key on, engine off, it disconnects quickly. I might be able to change this....

Good Luck and ROAST away!

Sorry about the $hit pics:

Here are some better pics of the unit installed.

I am very happy with this unit, it has exceeded all expectations and I would recommend it to any OBDII equipped series 80 owner on a budget.

Pretty cool. I’m still rocking a version 1.0 ultra gauge. You could add an obd ii splitter to leave the dash port available.

The 80 was full of people and gear with the AC cranked while towing the boat over 400 miles @ 55-65 mph this weekend. Coolant temp maxed out at 199F, average was around 188F.

It was reassuring to monitor the engine temp with a load like that.

Did you know the screen dimension of the OBD gauge? I want to retrofit instead of the Digital Clock, but also need to measure the clock space, mine its a 94 for the cluster its pre facelift

The screen dimensions are 51x37mm.

The gauge has been working great. I am finding that the screen is too bright for night driving - I put a sticky note over it. Not sure if the screen is dimable, nothing mentioned in the instructions.

This will not work with your 94 model year which would be ODB1 at best. It is a ODB2 device that would be compatible only with 95+ model years US vehicles. Other countries did not get ODB2 until later years.
