Newbie here so I checked FAQ and Search and didn't find anything...

My battery was dying after driving the truck to and from work, had the battery checked and repaced, had the alternator checked and rebuilt, replaced the negative cable. Still bying after about 30 miles, volts are a little above 1/2 but not to 3/4. with the truck running I'm getting about 12.68 v at the battery. Alternator guy says to check the cables. Toyota guy says check the fusable links. Another says the starter.

I thought fusable links were "on / off" type things?

I opened the little black box off the positive terminal and it has two post connections (10mm and 12mm) Where is the mystery wires everyone speaks of? Are they the pieces running from the box to the terminal?

Where is the second fusable link that the FSM shows 50amp?

Could the starter acutally cause this issue?

The only thing I can remember is using the quick start on the battery charger when my wife was in a rush. I heard a little sizzle from down near the starter, of course everything worked ok for a month so like an idiot I ignored it.

There are 3 fusible link wires connect directly to the battery clamp. The other items that the manual refers to as fusible links are the extra large fuses located in the engine compartment fuse box and under the dashboard on the drivers side.

Sounds more like a bad/poorly rebuilt alt. to me. Get it tested for free (on the truck first, then off if need be) at a NAPA or some such place.

P.S. Starter?? That's just silly...;p :D

I'd check the connections on the starter, especially since you heard a noise down there. If the main battery wire is loose or corroded, then it might be part of the problem. Besides, it's easy to check.
