How hard is it to change out the brake pads on a 60? I am going to be doing my front axle rebuild and thought I might as well do the brakes while I am at it. I bought a pad kit from Cool Cruisers... it looks really top-notch.

I also need to replace one of the brake dust shields... the one I bought from cruiserparts.net has some lines cut. Do those connections just screw off and on or am I gonna have to do some major work on the lines?

Thanks.

Pad swap is basically simple. Pull the retaining clip, pull the pads, put in new pads, put retaining clip back in.

As for the hoses on the dust shield... ? Huh? I don't think I understand. Your brake dust shield has hoses running to it? What for? I don't believe I have that....

Doc...

Thanks for the pad advice. Sounds easy enough. Will I need to bleed the brakes or anything like that?

Yeah, the shield has lines (metal lines, not hoses) connected to it that were cut (I guess to make the removal from the donor vehicle faster and/or easier). It is home right now, but I will try to post a pic of it tonight. I don't remember seeing the metal lines on my shields either, but I have not directly compared them yet.

FWIW, the part from cruiserparts.net is in great shape, but is still caked in grease and dirt. The price was pretty good (compared to $150 new) so I bought it.

No, you don't have to bleed the brake lines. You will need a C-clamp or large screw drivers to push the 2 pistons back into the caliper body (make sure not to nick the rubber dust ring/gasket on the two cylinders) in order to have enough opening for the new larger brake pads . You may also need the two (2) pins (#6) that retain the brake pads as they tend to rust and can be a PITA to remove http://www.sor.com/sor/cat084.tam?xax=26083&page.ctx=cat084.tam

Not a big project

Ming... the kit I bought came with all new pins. It has the works. Thanks for the help.
