Sorry if this is a stupid question...
97 troopy with 1HZ circa 250 k's, i noticed she is blowing a bit of black smoke when a plant my foot - all good driving normally but just under acceleration she is helping take care of th elocal mosquito problem
I thought i would start with changing the injectors which have probably never been changed - so my question is - is it as simple as taking them out - getting them reco'd/replaced and screwing them back in? - or is it something that needs to be done at a diesel (specialist) workshop?
many thanks
Bill

simple job
but
pay attention to the torque settings and replace the small brass gaskets under the injectors with factory or factory equivalent

47ft/lb or 64nm injector nozzle to cylinder head tq
27ft/lb or 37nm nozzle holder body to nozzle holder retaining nut tq

As per Feb 1990 1HZ FSM

And work under very, very clean conditions. (Did I mention to work under very, very clean conditions? )
Make sure all dirt is removed from the pressure lines before removing the injectors.
When installing the injectors again, make shure your hands and tools are free of any dirt. Best not to work in the open air with a blowing wind. Act as if you are in an medical operation theatre.
Even the smallest particle of dirt getting into the injector can cause damage.
This may seem over the top, but be assured, it's not.!! :bounce2:

250k?? They usually are ready after 80k! You can get them tested at any diesel shop.. you will be surprised how bad they will "piss"! ;)

I also change the seal for the return line.. it's an aluminum seal .. not sure if you can reuse them. I usually changed that at the same time with the brass injector seal.

CAREFUL NOT to torque the injector top part but the complete injector!
