I have the part and just need to change it out- is it a  job? anything I should watch for? first time newb.

That's one of the easier parts to change out.
Making a little mark on the square nut and bracket, by scratching a line or using a paint marker if it's clean, helps you bring the adjuster back to where it was when you loosened it. Helps to keep from overtightening your belt

You'll be detaching and reattaching wires in a very accessible but small space; I would disconnect your battery.

There is a bushing in the rear ear of the alt that the bolt slides through. The bushing can drift while the alt is out. If that happens yuo'll need to press the bushing back so it's flush with the sides of the ear.

Think I may need a larger alt though- I have a 55 reman and when the stereo is up it pulls some amps and hovers around 12-13 running- does toyota make a larger? Or will a odysey or similar battery help ?

don't necessarily trust your voltage gauge. You need to check the voltage being delivered to the battery cables using a volt meter. My dash gauge reads low, and I attribute that to voltage drop across dirty ignition switch or something similar. I got it to improve a little a while back by taking the ignition switch apart and cleaning the contacts, but this is a tricky job.
