I have a 98 with 150K miles on it which i purchased recently. I am trying to get a good baseline so am going though the process of doing all the fluids. Next on my list is the ATF. Im planning on doing the gradual fluid exchange instead of doing a full flush & refill. I know i can pull the drainplug on the pan, but i happen to have a fluid extractor (http://www.amazon.com/Mityvac-7201-Fluid-Evacuator-Plus/dp/B0002SR7TC/?tag=ihco-20) to do oil changes on my other car (VW). Has anyone used something like this for ATF fluid? My plan would be to drain the pan, refill, drive for a week, & repeat until the fluid comes out clean. I know the correct way would be to drop the transmission pan and do a thorough clean which I still might do, but that doesn't get the fluid out of the torque converter and don't feel comfortable flushing that system.

Thoughts?

Just an FYI if this is first ATF drain from the pan side of an 80/100: Pay heed to the FSM's drain plug torque of 15 ft-lb ;)

...and use a fresh drain plug washer.

I used one for years to change the oil on my boat, no trouble at all. I wouldn't recommend sticking the vacuum hose down the trans tube if it's a two piece hose though.
