- I have both NOS and Professionally Restored inside and out 1st Gen. HAZARD pull switch boxes ..

- Either choice above can come nicely saddled up with my period correct fit form and function reproduction Red-Bell 1st Generation HAZARD knob as well as you show clearly in your nice tech photos above …

My hand-made in-house Red HAZARD knobs have a solid brass female threads thick and meaty core , as well as a female threaded same traditional set-screw set-up same as the original ones did …

Both the Red HAZARD knob and my period correct H / Heater Blower front and rear Fan Pull knobs are Not 3-D printed , rather I craft them the traditional TOYOTA way , by hand , with pride using Kustom CNC alloy molds made from NOS originals of each knob outlined above ..

The Correct original OEM RED Color was based on a NOS Color Sales Brochure shot with KODAK KODA-CHROME Color slides and stored in a archival jacket sleeve I purchased in 1989 at the Carlisle Auto Parts Fall Swap meet and show in Carlisle Pennsylvania….

Oh Yea … it’s spot on HAZARD Red period correct little WONKA gum ball for sure …

I will post photos below shortly …,

Thanks
Matt

7/70 Toyota changed the wiring so instead of the hazards and turn signals each having a flasher unit to sharing one. The switch changed at that time. I show 9/72- 9/73 having a one year switch. So you time frame you would want a switch from 7/70-9/72. Unfortunately I'm not organized because I stripped the wiring from a couple of 71s back in the 1990s.

Thank you for the information. Your wife does not have you organized yet? The pics of your parts stash looked pretty well organized to me. 👍

Matt why is it I'll find some sites with parts as a mid month change where the old and new show starting and ending on the same month. Example is the 73 model. Find previous model ending 9/72 which find the start of the 73 model. Same way for 9/73. Most sites show 78 ending 1/79 but have never seen a 1/79 with the 78 style tub.

Speaking of the WONKA red gumball pull knob, I should put a label on the dash under it that says "Ejection Seat".

What got me on this topic was looking at the photos of my FJ40 and noticing a spot on the dash to the left of the cig lighter that was just a blank empty hole, and trying to find out what should be there. So, I'm missing the whole thing, including pull knob and nut.

Depending on when I feel up to it, I'm going to go over to the shop where it is either tomorrow afternoon or Saturday morning to try to work on the EPS conversion. While there, I will look under the dash where you (ToyotaMatt) said to look and see if I can find the plug. Right now everything is a bit of a mess, with everything pulled out of the dash for paint & body.

@pardion according to @Living in the Past what I need is a Hazard Switch that was made from 7/70 - 9/72 (my FJ40 was built 12/70), and if I am understanding @ToyotaMatt correctly it is a 9 pin plug, and the switch part number is 84330-60020.

if your Engine Bay DATA ID Plate is stamped :

- FJ40L-A ( FST )

- FJ40LV-A ( VAN / HARD-TOP )

- and your drivers side door jamb A-Pillar DATA ID Plate is Stamped Dec. 1970 or 12 / 70

- then you do / should only have a 84330-60020 as i outline and show above , there is zero grey area here , providing your Pro-Date and Model ID Code are as you make clear in your Thread Starter Post # 1

As for the engine bay data plate, I don't know since it is at the paint and body shop. The drivetrain is out of it so next time I'm over there I can look, if you tell me where to look. The passenger side. But let me know. As for the VIN and data plate on the door jamb, that's definitely what it says and here is a pic, see attached:

Well 7/70-9/72 did not have a Red pull knob. It’s black with a red engraved car. Here’s a couple photos stolen from the dash thread. I hope this helps your search. John View attachment 3741187View attachment 3741188

TOYOTA Never Offered the 84330-60020 HAZARD Switch Knob separately .......... only came with the switch as a KIT together .

so mr. pardion is the authority here ... :) :wrench: :wrench: :wrench:
