center con fake wood replacement? and nav radio question?

Looking to take the plunge on a 2001 with Navigation and have two questions

Looking to see if it is possible to replace the center console plastic(12" x 12" square piece at the base of gear shift) on a 2001 with the new stainless steel that is in the 2003 and newer. Looks like a easy swap .

Does anyone know if it is possible to hard wire an ipod into the sterio/nav system. I know it is possible with the stereo without nav.

I'd save your money and spend it another mod besides a fancy center console.

Also, there was a thread quite a while ago about hooking up an MP3 player. Don't recall the title, but I'd do a search for it.

Yup. It fits the back of yo mommas head when she's leaning over in my truck.

This swap is possible and i have done it. The only problem is that the chrome piece is sold with the whole console and it is like 2 grand. I got really lucky and found a guy on ebay just selling the chrome ring and snatched it for like 30 bucks. It is an easy swap though and looks great. I have pics if you want.

bling bling --yea i could put some fat 22's on it too. the reason i am looking to replace with stainless is it looks like someone drug a brick across the fake wood, otherwise the truck is spotless. At 2k the scratches will be just fine.

i'd love to see pics. i thought the chrome shift bezel went in a dogleg pattern since they added a gear ?

I think bsjoiner is saying he ONLY swapped the chrome ring and not the actual shift pattern. Here's a picture of pre 2003 and 2003+

To get the cover and chrome ring will cost you About $250 and that's without the cup holder and that not the cost for the one with the fake wood trim.

dang i have fake wood on my center and the chrome ring wont fit over it. grrrr. i'd swap out my entire center but the lexus wood color & pattern is totally different than the toyota.
