Hello All,

I am thinking of a home rigged install of a wireless charger setup on the center armrest of my Land Cruiser.

I am wondering if I can pickup a cheap center console from a Chevy/GMC, and retrofit that on my rig.

Has anyone done this so far? Any experience you care to share?

Thanks,
Andres

Not quite what you are asking for but I attached a thin Qi Wireless charger to a Ram Mount X grip and attached it to the A pillar. I know some people have concerns about the air bags but I looked at several pictures of LX/LC on Copart and I don't think the airbag will inter fear with this. With my seating position and hand position I never touch it and it doesn't block any vents.

That’s cool. Do you have a comments list you used to assemble this?

This isn't a new Idea, several people on the Tacoma Forums have done it and I also believe a few here have as well. My addition to the idea is the Wireless charger

I've been thinking about adding a wireless charger to the xmount. Don't know why I didn't thinking of loctite and just sticking it on the xmount. Thank you for the inspiration! Where is the wire going to the charger?

Its wireless!

No really I haven't ran the wire in the car yet. This particular charger has a small slot for a lighting cable. It wasn't attached in that photo and for testing I just have it running over to the outlet in the center console. It does need a pretty high amp adapter to work through my otterbox. I used this charger at my desk for a few weeks testing it before proceeding. It would not work on one of those small ac/dc cubes but it would work with the larger ones for iPads. It also worked best using the high output usb port on my laptop. Again this is due to my case thickness.

Solar powered! Haha.

Ah, okay. I think I'm going to have to run it to the center for now. I'm thinking of using a add a fuse to the fuse panel inside the car.

Thanks for the responses guys. I am not a big fan of the phone being in a visible spot when driving, as I don't want to be distracted with messages. I make a big effort to put my phone away when I am behind the wheel, but also have the need to use google maps or similar apps, so I figured that a tangled charge wire is something less I need to focus on to be safe...

I have seen several inexpensive examples of the Suburban/Yukon center console with the charger ($100 for the whole thing! Tahoe Suburban Yukon Center Console Armrest Lid New OEM w/ Phone Dock Charger | eBay ) and I figured I could buy one and butcher it to get the internals. A used center console lid from a 200 goes for $100 too (08-11 Toyota Land Cruiser Console Lid Armrest Door OEM Factory Black Arm Rest | eBay). I can probably get a reasonably good result inserting the thin into it, then getting it covered with the leather from my current lid...

Thoughts?
