So glad I ran across this thread! Having the same silly code 26 rough idle sputter acceleration problems. Runs great except at an idle. Then at times after warming up it idles OK....then back to rough idle low rpm.

Going to try the o2 sensor contact fix and see if that helps.

I am watching this closely also. Having the exact same issue with my newly purchased 94. I figure i have a vacuum leak and possibly more. My plan is to start with checking for a vacuum leak and then start looking at the other stuff. The truck does run well enough that i am trying to get through a bunch of PM stuff before digging into the engine.

You've at least checked for codes?

Yes, i just bought the 94 with a intermittent CEL and a rough idle. But it runs great. I pulled the code and it is 26. That is why i am watching so closely.

Same here. Just bought a 94 and it has the intermittent CEL code 26 as well. I've checked vacuum hoses and changed one that I found cracked. I also added seafoam to the tank and lucas fuel injector cleaner. Still got the 26.

LSCOWBOY from Clube3lexus site has a great write up and fix for the ECU for Lexus and it would also apply to TOYOTA's as well I think. Bill Bash is his name 850-687-7791. The parts are less than 2 doillars and to fix a LS400 its $200.00 all in. Worth the investigation and everything in the thread proves it to be the case on the Lexus's.

I have been getting the intermittent check engine light 25/26 again, over the past year. Last time I just unplugged the O2 for a year or so. When I moved to an emission test area I bought new O2's but they didn't last but a couple years before I got the intermittent CE light. I think my increased oil consumption might be what is killing my O2's as when I replaced the O2 when I got the 80 many a year ago, they lasted many a year before they failed. It was about the same time my oil consumption started to increase.

One of these days I will just unplug the O2's for good. I have seen no significant change between running with or without O2's other than it idles better with working O2's. Only thing is the CE light will always be on. Though of removing the bulb but then I could not check for other codes. If your CE light is always on you would not know if other CE related problems occurred. You would just have to randomly check the codes to see of something else popped up.

Update...Changed the PCV valve and grommet. Grommet was obviously original. The bottom half broke off and fell into the valve cover. Had to fish it out with a set of tweezers. I also changed a hose that went to the top of the intake plenum that was old and cracked. It has now been three days and 95 miles since doing so and no CEL. Previously it would intermittently come on every day. Fixed? I'm crossing my fingers.

Glad to hear this. Just did my valve cover gasket today along with the spark plug tube gaskets, PCV valve and gasket. Also ordered a bunch of the small vacuum line and a few of the larger ones from Sam (OEM Toyota with Mud discount). Maybe it will help with mine. But basically i need to finish all my water lines, do the vacuum lines then a fresh tunup kit. If the code is still there i will get serious about finding it.
