I though I would post a collection of the mods I have done to my trailer since I brought it home. I hope this helps someone looking for any ideas.
I welded land cruiser spindle with a birfield shaft to a piece of 3" pipe for my axle. I will use a mini truck disk brake hub and lock out. This way I can "lock" the hub and have "brakes" when the trailer is parked or if I have to dump it on a hill...it won't roll away...
The trailer did have the drum brake but I wanted a wider axle and cruiser bolt pattern so I though i would give this a try. It didn't work. The inner axle stub needs to float (Like in the truck) and not be welded solid. (or it needs to be PERFECTLY aligned) or you get melting hubs.

New lights:
And axe and shovel holders:
I was getting tired of lifting everything up and over so today out came the cut off wheels. After getting sprayed with black, smelly tar like substance from the 1" tube all went well.
I cut the corners about 3" in and backed them with a piece of 1/8" thick 2" flat bar for the stop for the tailgate. The top of the trailer also got reinforced with 1" tube. I also welded the whole length of the floor to the frame. I didn't do anything with the bottoms of the corners as I think they are plenty stout.
The tailgate is getting straightened and reinforced with both 1" tube and flat bar. I haven't decided on hinges or latches yet but I do want it to swing straight down when not attached with chains.
