I recently purchased a 93 LC with ABS with no lockers. I've driven it a few times in the snow and had to put it in 4 low to go down some steep hills and I noticed there is nothing on the dash that comes on when it goes in 4lo. I was reading in my manual and it says that the center diff light should come on in 4 lo since that gets locked when the 4 lo is activated. I can tell it goes in 4 lo as the gearing etc. is lowered as it should be. My question is should my cdl light come and and also should the abs light come on not sure if that gets disabled in 4 lo?

I checked that when I turn on my key before startup there is no cdl light either I can see a place for it but it doesn't light up. All the other lights come on ABS/oil light etc. Would it be as simple as the bulb being burned out? Can anyone check or know that the CDL light should come on in 4lo and it should show up with the ignition in the on position before start up?

Thanks

It should come on in 4 Lo. The switch on the TC may be hanging up if little or never used.

I'm unsure of whether it should come on with Check Engine etc at start. Have to check the manual and it's late. I don't think it does, but./..?

I'd say unlikely a burnt bulb, since it typically sees little use. I wish I was where I'd see mine come on more.

BTW, any chance this truck has been modded with a Center Diff Lock Switch? You say you're not seeing one, but people do use other switches sometimes with the wrong graphic when doing a selectable Diff Lock mod. If it was modded and you haven't found the switch to turn it on, then the light won't come on either. I can't remember if it applies to your year or not. In fact, what I'm remembering -- a dangerous think this late -- is that your year 80 came from the factory with a Diff Lock Switch??? In which case, that would explain no light if you can't find the switch....

There, I've muddied the waters, but given you a few leads. Good luck, maybe someone can get better answers overnight.:whoops::cheers::doh:

Test DIFF LOCK Indicator Light and 4WD Indicator Switch

The DIFF LOCK indicator light not working (when the CDL switch is on or when shifted into 4L) may be that either the dash light is burnt out or the 4WD Indicator Switch is defective. To test, with a paperclip in hand, crawl under the right side of your Land Cruiser and locate the 4WD Indicator Switch. The 4WD Indicator switch is located on the top front housing of the transfer case. Remove the harness from the switch and jump the terminals on the harness with the paperclip. With your ignition in the ON position, your DIFF LOCK indicator light should light up. If the DIFF LOCK indicator does not come on, you most likely have a bad bulb and it will need replaced. If the bulb is fine, you will need to remove the 4WD Indicator Switch and either free it up or replace it. I would first try to exercise, lubricate and test the switch before replacing it. Once the switch is removed, place the switch in a vise. Check the continuity between the terminals. When the switch is open, there should be no continuity and of course when closed (depressed) there will be continuity. If the switch is sticky, use some WD40 to clean and exercise the switch. This may or may not work but is worth a try before spending money on a new switch.

Yeah I know that there is no CDL switch it is something that I need to add in. Thanks for the detailed information it looks like I need to check my 4wd indicator switch.
