CBI GXOR issue (1 Viewer)

My buddy had the new CBI GXOR Hyrbid bumper, sliders, and front skid plate installed last week. Everything looks top notch as expected and he's beyond excited about the look. The sliders are designed to run the entire length of the rocker which is fantastic in theory for the sake of more protection and they look good to boot.

One major issue was discovered, the front part of the slider extends too far forward into the wheel well beyond the pinch seam. Under normal driving it isn't an issue but with the wheel turned during up travel it does contact the leading edge of the slider. CBI is aware of the issue but they have yet to reply with a possible solution, retrofit or redesign possibility. Hopefully they rush out a new shorter set because this isn't acceptable for $1100 and it will be an even bigger issue for anyone running tires larger than a 285/70/17. So for those of you considering these sliders or for those currently awaiting a set on order beware. If any of you other CBI GXOR Slider owners out there haven't had this issue please reply below.

I went with the Metaltech OPOR sliders for this reason. Some have said they are a little short but they give me the needed clearance and protection. Hopefully CBI can get this sorted out, besides this issue their sliders look really well built.

Agreed. I like the look of the sliders but I prefer a slight angle to them like the RCI and RSG sliders like I have. Their stuff is always top notch, it's their CS and long wait on build time that sucks.

His post is what swayed me from a set of CBI sliders. I’ll probably end up with sso or rsg. My wife likes the victory 4x4 sliders, but they look like they give a little less clearance due to being flat.

Yeah I had the same issues with mine... it sounded like a had just spun the wheel of fortune anytime I went into a drive way.... I sent them an email in august telling them about this issue and they said they would look into it.... funny thing is that both the concept vehicles were running 33” so I don’t know how they didn’t come across an issue before they went into production.... anyways I ended up chopping off the corner that was rubbing and it’s been good ever since...

My thoughts exactly. How was this not caught on the GXOR and Lexus Canada concept builds? The only thing I can think of is that the dimensions changed or they aren't being cut correctly. It sucks that they have heard about this from multiple customers now and they haven't offered any recourse. I hate that you had to resort to hacking up your brand new $1100 sliders in order to fix the issue, this shouldn't be your burden/expense to bear.

Out of curiosity, what size tires and wheel offset are you running?

It actually might be intentional for the concept. It's a show vehicle after all. Looks are more important than function for show.

First time I saw the concept I already saw that it's more for looks. The narrower part in Middle would not help when you need to slide over rocks. The body trim are way too close and would hit when the slider flex.

CBI easily makes two different version. One for people that want it to be true to the concept and one geared more for harder off roader that want to install bigger tires and don't mind sacrificing a bit of the anesthetic.

Well it looks like CBI doesn't want the negative publicity. My buddy spoke with them today and they will be sending out a revised set to him next week. The squeaky wheel gets the grease. I hope this replacement set is correct and arrives in a timely manner.

Happy to report that CBI rushed out a new and corrected set of sliders to my buddy this week. He swapped out the old ones and is ready to rock.

Original faulty set, protruding into the wheel well and making contact with the tire with only a slight turn of the steering wheel.

New set, shorter and quartered inboard to better clear the turning front tire.

That looks 1000 times better. I still can’t believe CBI wouldn’t make it right until a lot of attention was brought to the issue.

“Actions (or the lack of) speak louder than words” It really says a lot about their company and management.

Hi Guys,

It definitely look better, but is that a permanent fix from SBI?

I am thinking of ordering a set of SBI Sliders, by reading this post it looks like they have fixed the problem. Just making sure that all new orders they will send the updated version. I have a 2016 Gx460 with stock height at this time, will go 2-3 inches up later with 33" tires. I do not want to mess around with cutting and powder coating it.

Please advise.

It's my buddies GX, he's in the middle of a cross country move at the moment. It's a 2017 GX460 with CBI sliders, Low Pro bumper and full length skid plates. Suspension is Dobinsons MRR, TC UCA's, SCS SR10 wheels, 285/70/17 Toyo ATIII's. He currently debating roof racks and rear bumpers but hasn't made a decision yet on either. I'll get some pics when he's settled but he isn't active here or on any forum for that matter lol.

Thanks! Plenty to get me started. I had an Icon, Shrockworks, SCS, 285 ATIII setup on the 4runner so this should be an easy transition.

Any thoughts on that Dobinsons setup vs Icon or King? The toughest terrain it'll see is something like the alpine loop in CO, so I'm more concerned with on road manners.

I am extremely impressed with the Dobinson's, so much so that I'll likely go with the same on our Land Cruiser when the time comes to lift it. I'm not an Icon fan, too many blown and leaky seals so I'd suggest the MRR's and King's over Icon any day.
