Catastrophic Hail Damage: Will it be totaled?

Friday night fell unexpected victim to the worst hailstorm I’ve ever seen.

Sadly, my 2015 was in the driveway and took 25 minutes of 40mph wind driven dime to quarter sized hail. Every body panel and every plastic trim piece, lights, side mirrors, roof rack, window tempering layer damaged. Hundreds of dents, many at character lines and edges and several cracked the paint .

Waiting for insurance to come take a look. Really well maintained and 85,000mi — KBB shows a private sale value of $48,500.00.

Anyone had similar situation and what was repair costs?

I’m thinking it’s totaled sadly and wouldn’t be surprised if repairs are over $30k.

From research it seems 200 series side and rear glass is not laminated but tempered. Even tempering sometimes has a protective film on each side.

Anyone know what the 200 series has on front, rear and side windows?

Totaled with over $33K in estimated damage.

Gave me a salvage price of $19,600.00 which I am passing on, so keep an eye out on Copart as it only has 85,300 mi, outstanding on the interior, no mechanical issues whatsoever, clean underneath, and would be a great off-roader.

Now to convince them to not lowball the payout.

I love the 200's. I've had 3 now and sort of resigned myself to always having one, even with getting a GX550 OT+ back in the fall.

I don't relish the 18 month or more wait to find another low mileage one anywhere close to me. Frustrating.

Be patient. There's options out there.

Far from ideal, but it could be worse.

Buy plane ticket west
Plenty of low mileage 200 (16+ supermodels) around in people's 3rd and 4th homes.


Whether you want to pay is the key question.

When I lived in STL, it was full of american vehicles all round me.

not really. We have had plenty of threads of that with over 50 pages. THey all get locked.

I would vote to ban you, however. Then I would spend all day praying to all my gods, that every single of your car for the rest of your life gets hail damage totalled, and you are cursed in put in automotive purgatory.


Or in STL terms, you would go from Ladue/Clayton to Ferguson, if you choose to add a 250... ;)

interestingly enough, I spent last weekend in New Orleans. Only 1GX550 seen (and it was poorly lifted), 3 200's seen (all beat to hell), and maybe 8 250's seen in a 3 day period. I know it isn't a 200 or a 300, but it can't be all that bad. After all, I am enjoying the GX.

From memory LX has laminated front door glass, not sure about rear doors. LC is tempered.
 
for a 16+ truck or a motor only?
The hunt still has a wide dragnet......mechanic and I ruled out the swapping in of a Tundra engine because of limited return on investment. However, there are many Tundra engines available semi-locally.
Looking at 16's+. Also replacement 14's or 15's.

:hmm: Maybe I will load the fubarred '14 on a trailer and become a storm chaser with the hope of encountering a hail storm......kidding of course. I think.
