First time my muffler went out I had to get it fixed that day, cheap muffler went on. The next day I read here about a super deal on cat-back systems, but I had already fixed it. Performance has seemed less with that cheap muffler.

So now that muffler is falling apart, are there any exhaust deals going?

I went with the Doug Thorley catback. Might be too loud for some and there's some resonance right around 2000rpm, but it tucks up nice and tight.

Here is the system I want.

100 SERIES 1998 – 2008 | Landcruiser | Products

With the dollar being strong it makes it cheaper to buy overseas, even with shipping if you time it right.
Australia has TONS of extras for Land Cruisers.

most of Australias products are meant for the 6 cylinder diesel, make sure anything you order from down south is compatible with the 4.2 petrol to avoid an issue. Unless you have a diesel of course!
I'm looking for a complete performance system too that is quiet, not sure I want to go the D.T way but need to learn more...

keep us posted.

@tacoduck $400 for a muffler install? dont use that shop anymore. I paid $65 to have a new muffler installed

Borla makes a stainless catback system for the 100 series. Costs about $720 last time I checked. Just a touch louder than OEM. @landylover21 ran one on his truck I think.

Thats why you pay attention and order exactly what you need when it comes to the engine, everything else is the same, petrol or diesel.

Doug Thorley worked well for me. In my opinion very reasonably priced, and nowhere near as loud as everybody makes it out to be.
I wished it was louder personally, and I went with the headers and catback.
And it tucks up really nicely.
Worth the money.

Yup, had it for about a year and liked it for the first few months, then the drone got a bit annoying. Inside the cabin it sounded more like a vacuum cleaner and didn't have the sound I was looking for outside the truck. The Doug Thorley system is definitely louder; not audaciously loud, but my friends could tell a difference.

For me it's worth it because I love the exhaust note, and in-cabin noise doesn't seem to be that much more than the Borla system.

Yes, you can detect every single change in throttle as well, and I had some reverberation at the resonance point at around 1,800-2,000 RPM which was annoying, especially when I was pegged at that RPM, but after some searching and detective work, my rattle came from my cat-shields and the interior trim on the passenger side quarter panel.

were the performance gains worth leaving from the stock exhaust?

I feel the engine spools up easier but let's be serious, these are heavy pigs which were never meant for a run at Leguna Seca. All-in-all, I feel there's a bit more get up and go, but that could just be the psychological effect of hearing more noise; fuel economy is just the same as well.

Here's my exhaust comparo clip I did the day I had the Doug Thorley system installed (not under load, just in neutral). Be sure to listen to it with good headphones or speakers!:

Acceleration from inside the cabin. In my case, there's more tire noise especially at cruising speed. EDIT: On the highway the exhaust note is practically undetectable, even when I had my all-seasons I couldn't hear it.

Yes, you can detect every single change in throttle as well, and if things are not clamped down underneath you're gonna get some reverberation which can be annoying to find (mine was my cat-shields and an interior quarter panel panel), but I still get smile on my face as I pull into traffic.

I like it, but man oh man do I HATE exhaust drone, I like nice and quiet on the highway. Loud and throaty when putting my foot into it, quiet as a church mouse the rest of the time.
Any one have experience with MagnaFlow exhaust?

Yeah, it's not for everyone haha!

Even with my stock all-season tires highway drone was undetectable. Around town it's kinda loud but not overly intrusive when you're accelerating, but when you're simply cruising along at 10-80 MPH there's no drone.

Ok, good, thank you. Doug Thorley for the win then. Nice note, loud under moderate to heavy acceleration, little to no drone while cruising.
