Hi all,

At some point some poor cleaning product application seems to have bleached spots on my interior carpet. I've done some initial research and have found generic carpet dyes like this one: Amazon product ASIN B00XUPZC0K.

I could probably get away with touching up those spots with a product like that one, but was curious if anyone's got a great product they would recommend for this kind of touch up--especially if it's a very close color match. Before it gets suggested, I'm not really into ripping out the carpet in favor of new carpet or rubberized stuff, etc. I've got a 2002 with the gray carpet and seats.

SEM Color Coat can be used on carpet. It comes in about 50 colors, in spray cans. Try to get your hands on a color chart, either at an auto paint dealer or by getting SEM customer service to mail you one. An online color chart isn't as good. The trick is to hit it with a stiff brush right after each coat. If you don't the fibers will stick together and it won't feel at all like carpet anymore.

I've used this product on a vehicle in the past and found it to color and cover very well. That's good advice about brushing as it can stiffen the fabric otherwise.
A true dye wouldn't make the fabric stiff, requiring the brushing, but the coverage would be less and you might still see the spots. Also dyes can transfer to shoes and clothes but the SEM hasn't at all in my application.

@NCOBX did you ever attempt this? I had some bleach spill in the back of my 200 series and find myself needing to dye it back.

I have not yet. I'm honestly a bit scared, haha. Since the original post, I've noticed some stains etc. in hard-to-reach places that almost make me want to replace the carpet altogether.

Don't be afraid to use the SEM color described above, it's super easy and makes a big difference. Here's a pic from the car I used it in before and after, the top pic shows the condition of the original 50-year old carpet, especially along the transmission hump. Compare that color to the new CocoMats in the pic. The second image shows the passenger side carpets after I picked a SEM color to match and sprayed them. They look new to me and are still holding up like the day they were done.
