Hello

Just a quick question are the carbs from an 77 and a 78 identical? IE if I get my 78 carb rebuilt can I just bolt it right on my 77 FJ40.

Thanks

Because nobody else has pipped up I will. I would like to think so.

Since many many parts of the 40 are so interchangeable. Especially since there is only one year difference I think it would probably be a safe bet. I mean nothing serious mechanically changed like the number of carb barrels or the engine or anything for those years. So anything from a newer 40 will probrobably be a slight improvement if at any at all.

So go for it and strap her on! She how she behaves. Thats really the only way to find out really.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Ahab

It does seem like a newbie question but I know that the birfs are different for a 77 FJ40 so I want to make sure before I spend big bucks on a rebuild of the 78 and then find out that there was some wierd difference and then I am SOL.

Thanks
Again

Well I guess some of the emmissions gear could be different. Hard for me to say because I dont have any emmissions smog crap on mine. So, I really cant confidently tell you it will be perfect.

I'm just a newb at this stuff so before you go off spending up big for a rebuild you might want to get an answer from one of the guys on here with a 1000 posts under his belt and see what some of the cruiser lords have to say.

Well the cruiser gods of specter...
say that from 8/76 to 8/77 the carbs are exactly the same.

That is usually a good place to check if you want to find out swappability between years.
