I purchased an '82 FJ40 that came with a Weber. I have a carb off a' 76 FJ55 that I plan to put on.

My question is, what is the difference between the two years ('76 and '82) and will it cause me any issues with putting all the emissions and vacuum system back on?

Thanks,

Tom

Without going into ALL the differences, one of the 'biggies' is that the 82 throttle body section of the carb has FOUR vacuum hookups on it while the '76 has ONE. SO if you have to hook up emissions equipment, that's a deal killer right there.

There are PLENTY of 81 and newer carbs for sale in the classifieds. JLH911 has a pretty decent looking one.

I just put a 1976 FJ55 carb onto a 1983 FJ60 2F into my 1976 FJ55. I used the carb, air cleaner housing, valve cover and rocker studs from the 1976 2F and everything bolted right up for me. I'm 100% desmogged too though...

Thanks for the replies.

Mark, I was afraid that was the case. I was hoping to use the one off my pig that you rebuilt. Looks like I am going to have to make alternate plans. The wife ain't going to like this. Not one bit.

Mark,

A quick question. Will any 2F carb from the years '81 to '87 work?

Thanks,

Tom

I'm pretty sure the FJ60 carbs were all the same for the entire model run. You might find a very early one without the idle up vacuum pot for the airconditioning, but otherwise interchangable.

Thanks for the info Drew!

The search is on.
