My 1984 FJ60 is only running at full choke. In another thread everyone recommended checking for a major vacuum leak. I couldn’t figure it out to left it to the professionals at the shop.

They’re diagnoses is the carb is shot. Said it is leaking internally and even showed me where it was epoxied by someone else to try to stop a leak. There were some other repairable items in the carb as well that could have been fixed during a rebuild. They told me not to rebuild it though because they think it’s a structural leak. Recommended buying a different rebuilt one or a used one and rebuilding myself.

I’d like to do this on a budget while maintaining quality. I found rebuilts on Cruiserparts.com for $510 And used carbs on eBay for $300. I also found the Hygrade rebuild kits for about $50-70. Does anyone know of any other replacement options? I have the original airfilter housing that must line up with the top of the carb and my Cruiser still has the smog setup. Also can someone verify the carb part number for me? I have 21100-61141. Just want to make sure I pick up the right one.

Cruiser Yard would be a better option, i’d Have far more trust in their used carbs than the other you mentioned. If your place is sure the body has been epoxied then they may be right and don’t bother rebuilding it. O’reillys has a great rebuild kit and I’m pretty sure the acc pump was leather. That’s a big issue in many kits, they tend to be rubber and it doesn’t slide as good as leather.
Check also in the classifieds here on mud for a carb, sometimes you get lucky.

Agreed too w/ FJACs, if you can desmog it go w/ City Racer. I ended up doing that and it was the best swap I’ve made so far. Well worth the money.

Yeah unfortunately if you have to keep smog you are going to have to search for a used OEM from places like CruiserYard, Marks Offroad, etc. and attempt to get your hands on one (or post in the classified here). They do pop up on ebay for cheap from time to time, I was able to nab one a few months ago for $125. But that takes some time and watching...

Are you absolutely sure that your carb is shot? I would take lots of pictures and consult with someone like JimC (@FJ40Jim ) or Marks at Mark's Offroad.

So I never sold my old carb,
SOLD - FJ60 Carb
I was going to keep and and look at it as Garage art. But finding someone who needs one I would prefer to see it go to a good home.

It is dirty in the pictures and was in the land of New England salt. However it has something like 7000 miles on it and based on the receipt installed and tuned 7 years ago. It needs nothing just a new home. It ran well when I pulled it for my Jim C carb this summer and now I am moving to fuel injection (Jim C carb spoken for already) so there are zero reasons to keep it.

The carb was desmogged (basically covered the ports not needed) and the AC idle up does work.

If you want it let me know.

hi Nathen ,

after reading your post , it's clear that your step #1 here is finding out if u have to keep your Smog Equipment

intact in the state of Florida , and or do u have or are required to take a Yearly emissions test of some sort or

state inspection requirements ?

the correct answer to this question will in all Likly hood be the determining factor on what replacement Carburetor

u end up buying , used or new , USA spec. smog type or NON-USA smog-free type etc........

Smog Laws Vary from state to state so is VERY important u do your homework here on this topic

before spending a Dime on another replacement carburetor

just my :

Florida.....emissions.......safety.....LMAO.
They have nothing. You will be lucky if the vehicles have tires with tread and not belching black smoke.

City racer Fuji if you want to de smog and are in a rush.

Jimc if you want to de smog or stay smogged and have a few weeks to wait.

Trollhole If you want to buy an overpriced Chinese eBay carb from a domestic operation.

I know Mark's Off Road @65swb45 Does a fantastic Rebuild on both USA Spec. & NON-USA Spec.

i also know the Vehical down wait time on a Quality Rebuild would Not be 4+ Months back-log either ..........

I would love to de-smog my Cruiser but I don't think right now is the right time. It seems pretty involved and I just don't have the time to do it right now. I'm looking more for a plug and play option for the time being. I found an OEM rebuilt carb that looks brand new and has a warranty from a shop. It's on the way. Thanks for the offer Willard! I wish I'd received your offer earlier but I jumped on the other one this afternoon. Thank you everyone for the input and advice. Hopefully it'll be back on the trails soon!!

I believe @TRAIL TAILOR still carries a Mark rebuilt carb on the shelf for a fast turn around option.
Maybe Jason will chime in??

There is a thread out there where someone put on Fuel Injection. If you're not a purist, I would look into that. Much more reliable fuel delivery. Look at Holley or FItech. They are integrated units now, so you don't need a computer, its build in.
