Ok guys, I have a Weber carb on my '85 60, and I feel it's running poorly. I've tuned it to the best of my knowledge and I find the best results at around .3 to .6 turns out on the adjustment screws. Best results meaning throttle response and spark plug color (crispy brown/white). I'm no expert in these matters but from what I've read that is indicating I have jets that are too big. I dont know where the previous owners got the carb, it may be off a bigger truck so it's jetted for that truck. Also, It doesnt have the power/respose I would expect or want. A hard throttle seams to flood it out, so i have to modulate my foot pretty carefully. My questions are this

1) Try and go with a rebuild/clean/re-jet on my own?
2) Find someone who can tune and jet it properly?

I am going on a pretty long trip in about 6 weeks and need this thing to be running great. I'm also going to put all new seals and gaskets on the engine and rebuild the front axel while I have it down. Thanks guys. Also, any suggestions / links on posts demonstrating good expedition rigs. I'm looking at living out of this thing for a couple months and I want to do it right. I'm not lazy and I cruise the board constantly, but maybe if you have any good advice for me that I've missed. I ran into about $1200 I will invest, which will go toward a Centerforce dual-friction, SOA, and everything else I need for this trip. Alright, yeehaw.

Which weber? I run the 38/38 and its great. Find someone local who is familar with these and have them work on it for you. They work great but need to be set up correctly.

does anyone run a 34/34 webber?

I have worked on several Webers and found them to be a fantastic carb, not at all tempermental. The pilot jets (there are two and they are different from side to side) can be accesed from the sides of the carb. They push into a jet holder which is actually a large brass screw head that you will see quite easily. Pull them out and check the size of the jets. From there, you might want to re-post. From what I recall, here in Utah where we average 5000 feet above sea level, we ended up with the two leanest jets available and the rig ran very crisply. The top of the carb is easily removed with six or eight screws including two inside the air horn and by removing the choke arm from the air valve on top (be VERY carefull with the small E-clip on the choke!) This will reveal the float bowl and the main jets in the bottom if it. Any goo would accumulate there, so it's agood idea to to take a look.

yeah

still working on it, its a long story but ive yet to bust into everything yet. so once i find out more, i will definitely post. right now im in longview tx, which is how high, i dont know exactly. not high enough for much change i wouldnt think...
