Not about my FJ40 but I have an old Porsche that I want to have easy access to the underside to do some rust repair etc. I could build a rotisserie but it is time consuming and would have liitle or no future use for it. Is there any way to flip the Porsche on its side without destroying the body metal? I have a forklift so lifting the car is not a problem

Eastwood co. has/had a car tilter. It bolted to the bottom and then had a large diameter curve that went up one side of the car. You could roll the car over onto it's side on the curve.

I just built a rotisserie. The big bonus with a rotisserie is that one person can wheel it around the shop easily.

Timely...

I'm just about to build a rotisserie for the 40 (and other stuff later). Anything in particular to know before I start?

Seems pretty straight forward, but you know how these things go....

I've been thinking about building one as well. I think one issue might be the CG especially if you don't build it with adjustments for moving the CG of what ever you are working on you might end up getting into a bit of a leverage problem when rotating. CG=Center of Gravity

I built one for my 77 Bronco I'm doing a frame off resto on. Took me and a buddy less than a day to do. The hardest part was drilling the holes, but it's fully adjustable to use with many other types of vehicles. Here's a couple of pics of it before and after blasting. One thing I screwed up on was only having two caster whhels. Definitely make it all four. Moving it around the shop was a bitch.

Poor Mans rotisserie

I built mine for less than $150 and I love it. Do a search in the tech forum for the Poor Mans Rotisserie.

I built mine out of a pair of three legged engine stands. I already had them so it was very cheap. i think you can get them at Harbor Freight pretty inexpensively.

How about some pictures?

rotisserie

Ha, that's a real cool idea there.^^^^
Never saw that type. Is it hard to roll positions by yourself?

Not hard at all. Being on 4 casters also lets you spin it in circles so that I can position it for the best lighting in or out of my garage. It's raining today so inside it is.

mine made mostly from misc. scrap I had laying around. and some hubs from a mcpherson fwd car

Denis- now all you need is the calipers to lock it into position. Way cool.

To shave some weight I drilled the discs and use a "D" style quick release pin -or whatever you call them- through a caliper hole and the disc for locking in position :D
The CV joints are also gutted and cross drilled to fit a removable lever for rotating the hole thing. I'll try to find a better pic but you get the idea.

If you'd mount a little DC motor to it- you could rotate it automatically.:p
