Car battery for the 460

Just tossing this out there (it has been mentioned before)

The car battery in my 460 gave up and I needed to get a new one.

I pulled out the old battery and saw how small it was and it was only 500 Cold Cranking Amps. I always thought it started a little slow when it was super cold out.

Did some research and measuring; found out a group 27F size battery can fit in the 460 battery spot.

That allowed me to get a bigger battery that has 800 Cold Cranking Amps. Went ahead and bought one and it fit fine.

You don't always have to believe what the auto picker car part computer tells you.
 
I put a Optima red top in and like it so far. It's 800 CCA.
 
My odyssey battery lasted about 4 years. It bummed me out, seems like a high end battery should last longer than that but maybe I’m just turning into an old man.
 
Dude. Any pics on the underneath and it's mounting system? I'd love to have this setup.
No pic's of the base of the tray unless I pull both batteries.
YotaMasters fab'ed the tray when they did the lockers, gears, bumpers etc.
It didn't look too difficult of a design if you like to fabricate it yourself. The biggest issue is to make sure it's well mounted to the fender. Even though the tray itself was well designed and made, YotaMasters didn't do a very good job of mounting it to the frame and after a couple years, I found my batteries clamped int the tray, but the tray was rattling on the fender. It was a simple fix of adding a few through holes and screwing the base to the fender. Done and no issues since.

Moving to the bigger 27F doesn't require any other changes like a bigger alternator or anything, right? My current battery is about ready for a replacement and figure the extra size/cca capacity isn't a bad thing for a truck that does a lot of winter off roading.

House battery is wired to an accessory panel in the back.

Similar to my setup even down to having your power panel on the little access panel in the drivers side rear, But I have two Odyssey P1200 batteries in the factory location.

The factory Panasonics always gave me a decade of reliability. They are often difficult to find so I go with Interstate.

Still on my original battery at 6 years old. I put some distilled water in it over the winter. It still checks out fine. I carry a Noco boost box just in case. Not sure if I can stretch it to 10 years though!

They're also outrageously expensive from the dealer. In the desert, batteries are a consumable, and anything over 2 years I'd on borrowed time. Costco ftw.
 
24f $69 walmart value if you are in the eastern seaboard only (guranteed east penn with no leaks). One year warranty, plenty of warranty centers.
Everywhere else I would jump into costco or any supplier of interstate batteries, possibly find a decent 27F.
 
Not to sidetrack this thread, anyone have any ideas of getting a better grip on installing and removing the battery? I struggle sometimes to lift the battery out or in while holding the battery cables. I see the battery post straps but dont feel comfortable with those.

A suggestion:
Get some long cable ties (zip ties: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B078P8Y1ZM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1) and slip one under one side, near the end of the battery and zip it only enough to get your fingers/hand to grab, do the same with the other end of the battery.
Now you have 2 handles to pick your battery up with. When you put your new battery in, you can probably leave the cable ties as they are. They won't go anywhere, yet ready whenever you need to remove the battery.

They need to be maintained with an external charger from time to time or they will fail early. I've had a well maintained Odyssey last over 10 years.
