Some of you may remember.... I used to have an '85 4Runner, lifted, armored all the way around, locked F&R, etc. One weekend I put the winch on it. The next week it was stolen....

My '99 is roughly in the same place as far as upgrades now, so I want to put a car alarm in it. Does anybody have a recommendation on where to get that done?

Thanks!

I have a neighbor who's a retired police officer. I was asking him about avoiding getting a vehicle stolen, and he mentioned he has an alarm on his one-ton Ford from Ultimate Car & Truck Accessories at 4016 Menaul NE, 294-1209. I think it's down near Carlisle. He mentioned his alarm has a feature that allows you to track the vehicle if it is stolen, though you'd hope the alarm would avoid that in the first place.

Anybody else heard of this place?

That 4Runner is new enough that there should be a Toyota alarm that is relatively simple to install. I did this on my '99 Taco. It clipped right in to the existing harnesses for the door locks and added a glass break sensor. I got mine on EBAY for not too much money. But it's relatively featureless. It came with key fobs that operated the door locks and provideed some theft deterrence in that it makes noise. I don't think it did anything like cutting the ignition or fuel. But it was an easy installation and was essentially a factory-looking install.

I ran across Mesa Radio in my search. They (not to be confused with Mesa CB) have a pretty good reputation, so I took it in there. Thanks for the tips though. Got ignition kill and all that.

Did they do a good job? Did you climb underneath the dash and see if they did a nice job?

I'd suggest Viper Alarms...had 3 of their systems over the last 15 years and they work great. They have 2 way paging and smart phone apps now. I had someone take out a window in an alley 10 years ago and took off with out opening a door! Of course I had 500+ watts of light blinking along with the siren going off at the same time (hooked up KC lights, rock lights, and aux reverse lights along with parking lights into the alarm) The only thing left was the bat symbol in the night's sky!
