Hi Guys,

It would be great to be able to go to Australia or Morocco to attend an Outback Challenge, but why should we have to? We have awsome terrain here, some great trucks, and a bunch of dedicated guys who would want to build a rig capable of an event like that.

I think this could be done, lets hash around some ideas for the event.

Quebec is currently one of the busiest spots in Canada for racing I believe, Anyone from Quebec have any comments or input?

Regards,

I've run in Ontario-awesome terrain there and spectacular scenery! Now all I need is to build up my 60.

Be specific - where in Ontario? I am headed there in a couple weeks on vacation. It would be cool to find some trails.

i think BC would have some pretty awesome terrain as well...im living on the island (vancouver island) and theres lots there if you can get past the logging gates..

I think one of the best way to open doors is to point out to people that it is a potential money spinner for their town and a good way for them to put them on the map.
Make a point of buying as much goods for the event off the locals even if the cost is a little higher than the city.

also on getting the town on your side...be seen cleaning up the enviorment that you wheel in, i know most of the mudders here arnt the type to go out and wreck stuff or burn out cars but in my area the logging companies (its their land that we wheel on usualy) have just had enough of idiots going back in the woods and dumping garbage, cars everything and just being general pain in the ass, its given us a bad reputation in many places and thats whats starting to get places locked up so i think even more then buying supplies localy which will help but i think if we can get rid of the trouble maker image that wheelers have gotten finding terrain will be alot easier if companies dont have to worry about idiots starting forest fires or wrecking the enviorment....

NOW THAT CANADA HAS MORE ENTHUSIASTS we should have expeditions or a treck I dont care if it is B.C. QUEBEC ont. or N.W.T I have been trying to do something like this since 88 . wanted to enter my 80 BJ40 in BAHA in 88 I TRYED TO ENTER a 170 HP SAMARAI IN DAKAR and then in 1990 tried to enter the first diesel in BAHA cummins powered ram but nothing fell through. NOW I AM 37 NO MORE LET DOWNS LETS DO THIS I HAVE LOTS OF IDEAS and am buildind a coil sprung 74 so maybe we can work together. The other countries have everything we have a huge country lots of terrain . AARON KUIT

We have some crazy terrain here on the Vancouver Island as it has not all been shut down.

Moutains, river beds, tight forests, you name it we have it.

Just a matter of devolping trail systems and working with local
companies to invest or support the industry.

Not my cup of tea, but I have been to some runs with a local group called black flag.

Well, a challenge type event can be moved every year from one province to another, doesn't always have to be in the same area. I was thinking quebec as they are heavily involved in international racing already and can think outside the bun when it comes to this kind of thing. They will also just about sell their souls to bring an event to their town, give up their daugthers - that type of thing.

As far as setting out a course goes, that is probably one of the easiest parts I would think, just have ot find the area.

I'd like to start building my truck in fall 2008, 1hdt HZJ79, shortened frame and all that. Looking for sponsors:) Anyone?

This is getting good - build it they will come.

Why not start with a MWB ,probably cheaper and easier to procure?

Because i like the cab, have parts, and I can get the HZJ79 cab and chassis without engine really cheap:) I also like the pick ups!

hey Radd, where are you on the island? i would be interesting in seeing some of the terrain you speak of...it could take me a bit to get back in buisness with my rig but....after that im thinking ill be looking for somone to wheel with...just a stocker but dents add charicter

IT seems to me the vehicle buildup is easier that setting up the event

hummm, french daughters...okay, i am in...

Could someone give me a link to the event Louis is refering to. Is this a timed event? were speeding is involved? If so, the night mare with those event is road closure. I won't go into detail how they struggle to keep rallying event alive.

But is it is just going from point A to B through rough road, that something possible, and IMHO with such large resource of road in Canada, we should be doing something like that....

Best thing to do IMO is get the guy who organise those event here, hire him and show him the road. With a well know organizer, sponsor will jump in.

I remember the years when they were doing that snowmobile rally type dakar, crazy freezing to death event. It was spectacular, but probably too cold and eventually stoped. I think the organizer of the dakar was behind this.

Locals, or indiens were crashing everyone, i was always facinated by there face protection! Duct tape all over the face, even under a full face. It must of been soooo cold.

The event isnt planned yet - just in the dreaming stage - but we have to find a good area to do it. That's why we need to check out some trails near by.

Louis,

Do you have info i can read on the outback challenge, in all honesty i am really not sure what it is and the format.
